LOL

Not really. Garropolo took way too many sacks, aside from the poor O-line play. Tackles missed throughout the game (DB's often looked clueless). Missed redzone opportunities. Aw, why beat a dead horse. This is not an auspicious start to the season.

And don't forget the most important thing here. If you were on the fence about the quality of our pass protection, remember this:

ELI HAROLD GOT A SACK AGAINST US. #RevengeGame

The best game of his career.

A case of the butthurt. That first touchdown wasn't injury related, Witherspoon just made a dumb mistake. It happens with young players. All you can do is hope that he learns from it and doesn't repeat it in the future.

a mistake? He had at least 4 maybe 5 today.

I mean it was a coverage sack. You could have 5 All Pro's on the line and if the QB just stands there for that long, someone is going to hit them eventually. If you go to the game film thread this week, that part will be pretty clear. There were 3 or 4 coverage sacks where Garoppolo needs to just get rid of it rather than waiting for something that isn't there.

Real mistakes versus Webzone mistakes. People get up in arms about stuff that when you look at the film, weren't really worth getting up in arms about or were the fault of some other player. That Golladay touchdown was the most egregious because Witherspoon was completely caught out of position, just peeking into the backfield. That was a bad young player mistake that he needs to learn from. There was another play where he got beat with a double move that the Lions didn't complete but could easily have been a touchdown. Beyond that I didn't see much but it'll be interesting to go look at the film thread this week.;

The offense put 30 points on the board. I think that's reasonable actually.

My man...we're talking about Eli Harold here. Haha

Exactly, when the QB holds the ball that long, virtually anyone can get a sack. Garoppolo has to learn to get rid of it, come back and play another down. I think the instant reaction is "OMG, 6 SACKS? THE OL SUCKED!" But after people calm down and review the film of the game, the OL's pass blocking will look a lot better overall.

I'll definitely be looking at those coverage sack plays. Usually Jimmy is good with understanding leverage and throwing with anticipation to beat man coverage. Garcon, Pettis, Taylor, no one was able to shake their coverage?

They showed a few aerial views and it didn't look good. Pettis got wide open on a few plays where Garoppolo went elsewhere but on some of those long-developing sacks, it didn't look like there was much there. To their credit, the Lions did a pretty good job in coverage overall. Detroit can't be mad about that, guys like Slay played their asses off.

Thing is, tight coverage didn't stop Jimmy from pulling the trigger last season. He made a handful of awesome throws where Goodwin didn't even start his break yet and the ball was already out. Oh yeah, Goodwin.

Jimmy should've thrown a couple away or tried to throw someone open. He seemed indecisive this game.

But dude, it's Eli...just kidding.

The OL does suck....right now.

But I agree, I'm sure thl or JD can highlight it but it 'seemed' like we had a lot more of Breida/Morris, Juice and Kittle staying in for extra pass protection. So JG had way less outlets and was relying on his WR's greatly, to beat coverage. When they didn't, JG was stuck holding the ball too long b/c of the lack of outlets. The Lions were pretty physical with our WR's too.

The OL was good enough to blast open some nice big holes for Breida and Morris. I mean your blocking can't be that awful when you get 190 yards on the ground. The pass blocking wasn't as much of an issue as some claim.

Like I said, I think the film will show that the OL performed better than expected. RG was an issue, but we knew that coming in with all the injuries.
