I really like Kittle but I tend to agree with you on #8

Two wrong heads are better than one

IMHO, there were several questionable personnel moves in week 1 by Shanahan/Saleh but after watching the tape, maybe they get it right for game 2? Let's wait and see...

Bourne over James (this was a game where James could have stressed their defense with creativity; coming out of the backfield as a pass catcher, hand offs, jet sweeps, etc. b/c the stretch runs would be useless this game esp. with McKinnon out)
Celek over Wick (Celek was terrible in run blocking this game; game plan was for passing to Kittle and run inside so Wick > Celek)
Coyle over Lee (when you knew Dalvin Cook would own Coyle in space out at the WILL)
Ward over Reed (Ward played 5 snaps and still gave up a critical 3rd down)
Mitchell over Jones (just move Mitchell to FB already)

Man this is a great post. You would think James ability to play anywhere on the field would have helped a lot since Mckinnon went down. I like Coyle and he is a real blue collar guy who knows the game. The issue is even if he knows what is happening he is too slow to actually stop it.

Kittle looks like he's going to have a big season. He got open against anyone the Vikings matched up on him. It's uncommon for a man that big to be that fast and explosive in and out of his breaks.

Even against cornerback Trae Waynes, Kittle was able to get separation on a dig route. If he and Garoppolo could create more chemistry on deep passes, Kittle could put together a monster season.

From The Athletic's Ted Nguyen film breakdown of Kittle.

He's slow and he is a noodle arm tackler. That is a bad combo.

I agree with this from Ted. I think once Kittle puts it all together, which hopefully isn't far away, he's going to take off. And, the combo of him and Jimmy will just keep getting better and better the more they play together.
Us old school fans remember when news papaers were the only way to follow teams. After every game the stats were printed out as the "box score". As an "old timer" I'm having trouble locating dependable box scores after the game.

A thread like this would be a great place to post box scores.

Any sources you can recommend out there on internets?

I know the box score is out there in the pipes some where!

Thanks. I actually thought he'd be active esp. for this game. Sadly, the Rams had a game plan against the Raiders that I had hoped Kyle would have had for the Vikings. Tons of jet sweeps and handoffs using 3 different receivers, all for positive gains and helped wear down their defense. That would have been perfect for James.

This game was only close because MIN was up by so much and shut it down.

What do you think our fans would be saying if we were up 24-3 in the 3rd quarter only to win 24-16?

what would there fans be saying if they had to play without there starting rb, starting lb, lost one of there top wrs, two gaurds had to play a tackle at guard and a turnstile at tackle . And had an opportunity to possibly tie the game at the end. Oh yeah and they were playing one of the top teams in the league. My guess is it would be the same.

I saw a LOT of arm tackles in the game that were ran through or shrugged off. I think this is partially because of the way the 49ers teach tackling. They teach "rugby style" arm/shoulder tackling. My understanding is it is an effort to have sound fundamentals that don't contradict NFL contact rules as well as to reduce injuries. I believe Pete started really preaching it the last year Saleh was in Seattle. Saleh has brought it to the 49ers. Maybe the team is continuing to struggle with that, like they are with the no look defend the pass by playing the hands approach tp playing DB that is another trait of Saleh defenses?
I've seen the same thing in a number of other games this first week of the season.

With the limited number of days teams can work in pads, and the very few minutes starters get in pre-season, the first couple of league games are like what pre-season games used to be. Especially with the new tackling rules, it is going to take a few more games until the tackling becomes more crisp. It is what it is.
