Agree the DB coach should be fired but then again he's under Saleh lots of injuries but yes it would be 3rd and 5 and a free release no bump and run no jammimng at the line CBS needed to be more aggressive

We don't blame any coach for the injuries. We are blaming them for the poor technique, people not knowing what they are supposed to be doing, etc. It's one thing if they just don't have the skills, but to be poorly prepared week after week?

FYI there is a reason they are 3rd string players....

And we saw the same thing with our first string players. There is a reason we see them same behaviors out of the entire team, minus a select few. Or regression almost completely across the board.
I hope we are on the phone with Marquand Manuel or Vance Joseph to upgrade our DB coaching.

Fire Jeff Hafley! The cornerback technique has been atrocious the last two years. Dudes constantly giving free releases, opening the gate early, not using their hands, not stacking or using the boundary, not understanding route concepts, etc.

This. Marquand Manuel is available. He's experienced in the scheme and is actually a good defensive back coach.

Perry Fewell was also just let go by the Jaguars. I'd love to see him added to the staff

I agree with you 100%. f**king trail technique is BS without getting your head around. I'd even go on to say the reason why interceptions have been so low is that CBs NEVER EVER turn around to locate the ball.

Eric Crocker on a podcast a while ago said it's definitely not Hafley. He said he knows what and how he coaches so maybe this is more Saleh's guidance/preference?
whats the explanation then. Besides we are starting future bouncers and valets.

Who knows...all our starters from those 6 of 7 wins last year started the year looking like crap and lost in the same manner as was every personnel combination after them.

Wasn't that Whitner? He said it on his IG. I believe his words were, "I played for Hafley. I know what he teaches. This ain't it." He basically implied Ahkello is trash lol.

He also touched on everything I referenced in my previous post. A lot of guys aren't playing with proper technique or within the scheme.

Okay, so that is Whitner and Sherman who have backed coaches on the defensive staff. What are the odds that all of these players are just that awful/unteachable?

Exactly what I think we should do as well. Hafley needs to go.

You're right. I mixed them up. Crocker shared a number of other concerns about Saleh esp. regarding the lack of attention to details.

This is very likely.

Hero/NC

So who do you hold responsible if Saleh is kept? I mean it's craaazy that our CBs don't turn their heads around as a basic technique.

Me?

I hold Kyle responsible for sticking with a green stop-gap DC and then Lynch for sitting there like a puppet and not saying a word as Kyle confirmed Saleh will be back for year 3.

To me Saleh is simply doing his very best. Maybe he grows into an excellent DC some day. That can't be ruled out. But the odds are stacked against him.

The fact that they did try to bring in Norton gives me hope that they really didn't feel 100% confident in Saleh. But here we go again.

As to the techniques/philosophies...Hero can certainly speculate better than I could.

See, that's where you guys are wrong. That's the not the problem; that's the result of the problem. The problem begins at or near the line of scrimmage. If the cornerbacks were playing with proper technique and playing within the scheme, they would never be in the disadvantageous position they end up in.

In football lingo, it's called out-of-phase and our DBs spend a lot of time there. When a DB is out-of-phase, it's ubiquitously taught(Bill Belichick, Vic Fangio, Nick Saban, etc all teach this) to play the eyes and hands. The problem isn't that in and of itself, it's what the cornerbacks are doing at the beginning of the play to end up there.

You are talking about lack of jam at the line?
