Yep, you're correct. Niners can block all interview requests unless it's for a HC job.

Yea you can block anything. You're just kind of an a*****e if you don't let a guy get a promotion.
This is lookin like a pretty good hire. What happens when this guy and Saleh disagree about something - do zombies arise from graves?

They play a game of beer pong to resolve the issue.

I just saw on NFL Network that Kocurek has zero desire to be a DC or head coach. He wants to be a lifetime DL coach.

Bringing in Kocurek was a blessing for this organization.

Best news all day! Thanks for bumping this thread! He and Joe Woods were incredible additions. I know its hard to tell how much of this year's success was due to new personnel, new coaches, and or the addition of the wide-9, but we have seen an increase in production from almost all of the D-linemen who returned this year, and good coaching makes a difference.

Totally agree, but Fangio said the same thing re:he never wanted to be a HC, but its my understanding that the Broncos offered him a lot of money, and whalla, he's a HC. Having said that, I think he needs to be a DC before he can jump to HC. If Dan Quinn - who was one of the worst DLine coaches the 49ers have ever had, can become a HC, heck Kocureck has 200 X more talent than Dan Quinn, he can be another Buddy Ryan - IMO.

With the Bronco's they also hired Munchak along with Fangio almost like a package deal... and he's Fangio's BFF so that came into play. Fangio also threw his hat in the ring for Niners coach before they went with Tomsula so it wasnt totally out of the blue for him to accept a HC gig.

Goals can always change but for now if he is happy with where he is... that is great news for us.

sign him to a 20 year contract.
IDK, during BW reign, we had the one best OL coach in the world, Bob McKittrick. He loved his job and really, truly just wanted to be an OL coach for the 49ers. As i recall, he kept up his fantastic coaching job Until we lost him to illness, cancer as i recall. He was like a marine drill sergeant and just loved coming to work and molding athletes into all pro players.

Why can't Kocurek be one of those. He's been around the hiring and firing of good DL coaches and probably prefers just teaching something he obviously is expert at.

There is another example of a crazy old lovable guy. The old Marine would wear shorts and t-shirts even in cold weather games in the Midwest during winter-time.

Yup, but that doesn't last long because word quickly gets around the league that altho you may be a red hot HC, good position coaches and coordinators will stop coming by looking for work if it is known that you won't allow promotion jumps to other teams while you are under contract

It's okay. That post was based on speculation. Now we know he has no desire to be a head coach. Some guys are smart and know what they're good at. Kocurek knows he's an elite DL coach.

btw, Jim Washburn, Kocurek's mentor, was on KNBR a week or two ago. He spoke about how Kocurek is a maniac and absolutely lives for his players. 49ers are lucky as f**k that the league is filled with terrible teams who make terrible decisions.
