Very true. Not sure how I feel about that. If the FO insists on keeping him, will a veteran DC be turned off? If it's a top DC, will it matter?

The previous 2 years the defense has given up 1,800 yards and this year, it'll probably end up being around 1,700 and it really hasn't made a difference in W's and L's from a rushing standpoint.

But pass rush...that's where W9 has been huge for AA, Hyder, Bosa, Blair, etc.

I think if Saleh goes to Detroit he's bringing him with him.

Yeah, and you know how most DCs are. They want to make sure they stop the run before anything else. I give Saleh props for being open to Kocurek and the wide 9. It's been a big boost in regards to getting after the QB.

I don't think there will be any top DCs available this offseason, so if the 49ers bring in a bum like Dan Quinn and we lose Kocurek, it's going to be a big step backwards.

Yep

Totally agree.

That's why I think it's a forgone conclusion we promote Ryans.

Only if it is a promotion.

Yep and give Kocurek another title along with DL coach that makes it harder to poach him.

FWIW Koc did run the DL in Detroit for 3 years under Teryl Austin (whom I had forgotten about until someone brought him up in another thread). So it is possible he could stick and goes back to running a more conventional front under a new DC.

They ran wide 9.

I thought Austin had moved away from that, guess I was wrong.

Well I guess if we want Koc to stay it would come at the cost of resurrecting the DC career of Austin.

I'm going to miss Kocurek and Trent Williams. They were wonderful additions to the team. (i didn't want T. Williams on the team but I was wrong) Kocurek has been a God send for the 49ers IMO.

Saleh's best coaching job did come at the worst time. He's gotten better and he's probably gone.

But don't worry. Robbie Gould is staying.

Umm, this sets the table for a disastrous season next year.

They're certainly realistic.
