They will probably promote Demeco Ryans.

I think if Saleh goes to Detroit he's bringing him with him.

Why would Kocurek leave? I don't see him.as a DC type, assistant coaching positions are 2 year deals and he'd still be under contract. He can't leave to take the same position elsewhere

If he was fired.

I get a DC probably wants their own guys, but I can't see them letting Kocurek go. They fired a DL coach already and have brought in Kocurek to great results.

You know how coaches are. They want to bring in their own guys. Not only that, but most DCs have a "stop-the-run first" mentality and don't want to run a base wide 9. That's why the base wide 9 isn't popular around the league. It's a trade-off of stopping the run in favor of rushing the passer. This is why Kocurek has been unemployed multiple times despite being an elite DL coach.

True. But if Shanahan makes taking on Kocurek as a condition of employment, I'm sure it won't be an issue. I doubt Shanahan is looking for a complete overhaul in defensive mentality. He knows he has top end pieces on the D -- Kocurek among them.

Keeping Kocurek and the Wide 9 approach could very well be a condition of hiring. This isn't just the defense that Saleh wanted, this is the defense that Shanahan wanted. It wouldn't be that complicated to find a DC that is willing to build on what Saleh has started, whether they go in house or they bring in someone like Morris from outside.

I could see the wide 9 being conditional in the hopes that Ford was gonna actually contribute. But now that Ford is basically a bust, they have to figure out their options. Not sure of the timing but Kocurek's job may depend on FA deals and the draft.
We will promote from within and keep essentially the same staff. Shanahan will deny Saleh coaches like a boss.

Can't deny assistants from interviewing if Saleh is offering them a coordinator spot.

Yeah that is one thing that will be interesting to see as teams will no longer be able to stop assistants from getting coordinator interviews like in past years. That said, I think Saleh and Shanahan have a good enough relationship that he's not going to go out of his way to screw Shanahan out of good coaches. Saleh will have plenty of options to work with when it comes to building a staff since he's been around quite a bit.

On the other hand, this also helps the 49ers odds of being able to bring in top young positional coaches as coordinator replacements. Under the new rules, Shanahan could opt to interview a well regarded QB coach to be his offensive coordinator, even if there wouldn't be playcalling responsibility included and that coaches current team couldn't do anything to block the interview.

I wonder if we're going to see a lot of movement this off season.

We pretty much have a deal in place to send you and an "unnamed moderator" to the SaintsWebzone for a conditional moderator and a poster to be named later.

How boring. Their OL is terrific. Can I come back and troll the OL thread here?
