Also, with the proliferation of the Shanahan offenses around the NFL, it does seem that being a base wide 9 would be advantageous vs wide zone.

Damn you, Kinlaw, we really need you to be healthy.

Yeah, we annually give up 1,800 yards rushing. That's pretty bad. But it's never really affected the defense overall.

Now? We're on pace to give up nearly 2,100 yards. That might be the worst in the league.

For now it's 23rd in the league. If I was the Jags, I'd be calling dive and off tackle plays ever other down on our defense.

Indeed. Still think we should bring Hyder back. Give us one more solid starter on the edge and we have a pretty good rotation. Bodes well for Kinlaw when he returns too.

Back up the Brinks truck and give him whatever he wants. Money well-spent
I feel ashamed for allowing even the slightest bit of doubt of Kocurek's system to creep into my mind. Ever since I posted about how underwhelming the DL had been playing, they've turned it on every aspect of DL.

Our D does well in getting sacks (top 10), but not so well in other pressure metrics.

We have a low blitz rate too.

knockdowns we're ok:

I don't know if it's just a product of the schedule, but the run defense turn-around has been remarkable from the beginning of the season.
As good as it gets for a position coach.
Can we get a db position coach version of Kris?

In the offseason, I hope. God knows we need a good DB coach to coach up the young players to be better (Lenoir and Thomas) and maybe pick up another day 3 defensive back gem also next year.

Also, I hope they can sign Key in the offseason, because I can see him being a great opposite for Bosa. I think he can be around a 10+ sack guy next year as he's had two off seasons with Kocurek, he can hit the ground running next year. We'll have dee ford off the books by next year, hopefully, and maybe we can either draft or sign another Ebukam 2.0 or Arden Key 2.0.

This is GREAT info. Sheds light on a couple things. I'm banging the table for another edge rusher. I love our D-lineman currently, but I think they are all roleplayers save for Bosa. If this is the Chicago Buils, we have Michael Jordan, Jon Paxon, Horace Grant, Cartwright, BJ Armstrong, etc. We need a Pippen. We need a clear number 2 edge guy. It will be the biggest help to Bosa AND Armstead. I think Armstead is great in less space. Part of the reason for his 10 sacks in 2019 (in my opinion) is because there was NO place for a QB to run because the pressure was coming from every direction. When Armstead applies pressure himself, even the most immobile QBs can evade it. With Bosa and Armstead, it's a little bit messier of a pocket, but the more elusive QBs will still get away. If we can get a guy that can win at a high percentage on the line with Bosa and Armstead, we are going to be an all around better D-line unit than 2019. I doubt the pass rush will be anywhere near. A healthy Dee Ford, Bosa, and Buckner is just unreal. But we will be definitely better at stopping the run and will be a top-10 team in terms of rushing- across the board.

I do think the our pass D is underrated, because we are not top-10 in terms of our pass rush win rate, but our pass D is. We definitely need more help in our secondary, but these numbers bear witness to the fact that we aren't as poor as some would like to think we are.

As for coach Kocurek, I am so glad that he has no desire to be a coordinator. Hope we keep this man forever. It's like we found our Bobb McKitrick for the D-line.
