I read that it wasn't about his role last season, I was listening to a podcast and someone said it was because he felt super disrespected by who he was negotiating with at the 49ers. Which is actually a great eff you. Lol

team: "let's play hardball"

deebo: "get me the eff out of here. Negotiations off"

Not that I overly believe anything from these talking heads but there were reports we offered him @19 mill. If so, that would make sense.

I don't trust anything the talking heads say. Deebo/Shanahan didn't confirm or deny anything though, so there miiiiiight have been something.

Thinking about it, guessing how I'd feel if I was in Deebo's shoes, my GUESS is that he wasn't necessarily unhappy per se about being used as a Wideback... but rather, he wanted to be paid appropriately for doing so. As in... "I'm down to do everything to help this team win. I will put my body on the line. I'm a playmaker. Give me the ball...... HOWEVER, I'm not stupid... you're going to shorten my career if you play me like a runningback. Pay me well to do so."

I really do think he's fine to do what he does, it'd be a surprise to me if he was unhappy with it since he seemed to proudly talk about being a wideback last season. A lot of players actually said that him doing so was a huge source of inspiration for the team..... I just think it was that he didn't want to be doing that on his rookie contract. He needed to be taken care of.

Agreed. Congrats to Deebo now let's roll
This roster payroll is getting healthy.
In the past the payroll at the top were guys like Malcolm Smith, Kwon, Ford, Jimmy G, Richburg, Mckinnon. Average, injury prone and overpaid.
Now the players at the top of the payroll should be Trent Williams, Kittle, Fred, Deebo, Armstead, the Wards. Jimmy G will be gone. Next season McGlinchey will be gone most likely and Bosa will join the top paid guys.
With elite home grown players the FO won't be wasting more cash in overpaying in FA.

Especially if you buy into a false moneyball narrative.

Kittle check
Warner check
Trent check
Deebo check

Bosa in 23 then Aiyuk in 24 then Trey if things go like we hope.
f'n finally

Yep, no moneyball here, sure Paraag is a cheap b*****d at times, hard negotiator, but he's the best in the business.

Now Deebo is highest paid player on 49ers, once Jimmy is gone.
