Saw on the homepage that Kyle was trying to call a timeout before the play happened.

does Jerry know what he's talking bout? because it was an outside run that Deebo cut back inside. Fred Taylor is HoF semifinalist. he was a beast too. not a GOAT like Jerry but still one of the better RBs that's played in the NFL.

Outside run. So was the reverse that ended Jerry's only injury cut short season. Jerry knows what it's like getting hit by de's and dt's. That's why he's bringing up this is something you want to avoid if you want Deebo having a long, healthy career.

He's not a fullback. Can we use him like a WR please. Backfield is for the playoffs only. You can spot him there. Not all the time. Choose your spots. Don't kill him in the regular season.

Deebo wants the ball in those situations. Deebo seeks out contact. Deebo plays VERY VERY differently than Jerry, with all due respect to the GOAT.

Why use him the way that made him an all pro and the desire of the entire league? Yeah I don't know

Fred Taylor called Rice's comment preposterous and he's absolutely right

Is he? You're talking about a guy who played 20 years and barely missed a game. I think he knows what hits should be avoided.

To add, the most significant injury of Rice' career happened on a reverse when he was tackled (by the face mask) by Warren Sapp.

Deebo's actually about the same size as Jordan Mason and has a pretty stocky build. He's not a flimsy 175 lb receiver that's going to break on contact.

Rice was in another level than even Deebo when it came to running after the catch. Quicker, faster, with better footwork...he was just harder to tackle because no one could touch him.

never said Rice wasnt. Jerry was the GOAT. but Jerry never sought out contact with the ball in his hands as Deebo does. Deebo Samuel is way more physical with the ball in his hands. and that comment is no slight on Jerry's play. they just play differently.

This. Let's not forget that.

Face it fans, that's what makes Deebo who he is. Without that ferocious running after he has the ball in his hands he's just an average receiver. He doesn'thave the best hands or run the best routes. what he does is run like a man possessed.

I'd have to disagree with that.

Deebo was leading the league In receiving yards last season before Kyle put the entire offense on his back and began using him as a wide-back.

I don't disagree with Deebo's usage, but it IS true that Deebo was leading the league in receiving before we had to start using him as a wide-back.
IIRC, he was getting more big catch-and-runs over the middle over the first half of the season. A lot of them felt like 30, 40+ yard explosives. Similar story with Kittle back in 2018, 2019.

I see the value of Deebo in the backfield, but I'm curious why we don't see more explosive gainers for Deebo, Kittle like we did in previous years. I assume schematically that defenses work to take that out, since those tend to be the back-breakers.

Im not saying he's not a good receiver. I said he's not a good pure receiver. He had a lot of receiving yards because of the YAC. A lot of that is the same type of yardage he makes when he runs. Fighting for extra yards and breaking tackles. His drop % has been high much of his career, at least for a guy that's a #1 receiver.

I stand buy my opinion that his ability to be used in multiple ways makes him way better and more valuable than if he was strictly a receiver. As a pure receiver based on his hands, height, speed and route running I would put him in the 2nd tier. Used the way the Niners use him I would put him in the top tier.

Still no info on how bad his injury is. I guess they had 4 guys go in for MRIs thus morning.

I thought it was a good play call with an unfortunate ending.

I remember Mason being subbed in and assumed it was going to be a carry for him.

And That is why Jerry Played for so many years with so few injuries. Deebo will not last very long continuing to play the way he does.
