you throw it up sometimes if you trust your wrs to make plays and jimmy did just that. now IF it was picked, it would be the equivalent of a punt, not the end of the world.

I wouldnt have cared if he threw a bomb that was picked for the exact reason you just said.

However, I completely disagree with your first thought in this sense...this wasnt a case of Jimmy throwing a ball to give his WR a chance. This was an underthrown/poor ball that Deebo made a really good effort on. Ball should have been in a far different place than it was and Deebo saved a pick.

With that being said, he absolutely should have caught it.

That was a designed throw. How did he save Jimmy? All he did there was drop a great pass.
