I am not talking about cap hits. You can't go off of that. Cap hits can vary from year to year. Structure of the contract, actual restructures, void years, etc play a role. Looking at his APY, it's on par with receivers that have 1k yards on their second/third contract.
Armstead had s cap hit of 25 million +, but early in his deal, the number was around 10 million.
The problem is he played 10x better in the walk year. That's an issue. Look at the SB he got worked all game. You expect a guy taking up 10% of your cap to carry some weight, Conley could have had the SB Deebo did. So we ain't getting our monies worth. He's a RB at WR. He doesn't get open. Or run routes. We got played. Shanny fell in love with the positionless aspect and how hard he can finish plays when he feels like it. I ain't saying he's a bad player, he's just not a #1 WR, that's been exposed. Yet he's paid like one. I say we run the heck out of him, that's when he's at his best, runs and screens.
He got 1k yards from scrimmage last year. The contract is on par for receivers that get thar kind of yardage. And this is with Deebo being priority number 2 for teams to stop. No he isn't Justin Jefferson, but Jefferson ever been in a position to make a play in a big time moment when it had to be made? Deebo has and it wasnt just in 2021.
How much time do you think defensive coordinators spend game planning for Conley? If a defensive coordinator actually did game plan for him, what did you think his production would be like?
He actually needs to be run less., but I do agree with using him for screens. He works well in space, but Shanahan needs to do more to get the eyeballs off of him.
I've seen Darrelle Revis work Andre Johnson. A top tier corner can do that. It doesn't suddenly mean a guy can't play. Most secondaries cannot do what KCs secondary did and Kyle did Deebo no favors with how he was used (overused). It was an awful gameplan to go right against the strength of KCs defense. That isn't Deebo's fault.
