Could be a move to help keep Ward.

Yes

OK thanks. If that is true, than it make sense from a team perspective if we had no intention of trading Deebo anyways.
I was saying all along that we would be able to keep two great receivers. There are a few teams that have done this for quite a few years. Philadelphia has basically kept everybody and are paying a quarterback 50 million. I'm glad it looks like we are keeping the best playmaker with the ball in his hands in the NFL.

We will lose Banks and possibly Greenlaw, Huf and/or Ward. We have already drafted ahead of time to replace some of these positions if needed

Still need Greenlaws replacement. Winters ain't it.

Again, I am no cap expert, so someone correct me if i am wrong, but this does seems weird. Why create so much cap space for this season? Doesn't this just give us less options with the players restructured in the future? Why create even more cap space for the season that we don't need? It does seem like we have done this in the past though, So there might be some sort of benefit in doing it that I don't understand.
To rollover into next season. Before this run on contracts this past week, the 49ers were sitting around 305M in cap allocations for 2025 with an effective cap around 290M. After all of these moves, they are around 306M in cap allocations with an effective cap around 325M. The restructures and extensions also add void years through 2028 starting this year instead of through 2029 starting next year.

Big Free Agents
  • Greenlaw - Wait and see to see how he recovers.
  • Lenoir - He is refusing an extension now and wants to play out this year to increase his value.
  • Ward - He is refusing an extension now and wants to explore free agency. Has a $12.2M dead money hit from his contract voiding in February 2025. Extending his before his contract voids keeps the cap hits from accelerating.
RFA/ERFA tenders: Mason, Hawkins, Tonges.
Free agents resigned to minimum contracts: Allen, Bartch, Conley, Flannigan-Fowles, Givens, Robinson, Saubert, Taylor, Ya-Sin
Free agents not likely to be resigned: Banks, Campbell, Dobbs, Feliciano, Hufanga, Mitchell, Moore, Yiadom
Definite Extensions: Purdy
Extension targets: Burford, Collins, Kittle, Samuel, Warner

Burford should not be an extension target. I'd rather extend Feliciano.

Winters may not be yet, but maybe Campbell could be a placeholder for a few years. He ann All Pro a couple years ago. Also, we're not expecting to get the same level of play as Greenlaw, maybe 75 to 80%, which would be a very good linebacker and we'd save 10 to 15 mil.

I hope not. Feliciano is going to retire after this year most probably. We can always get a veteran guard like Feliciano for a pretty cheap price that seems to be our trend
Damn Deebo is smart.

He's going to get PAID by someone else. People like to nitpick Deebo's game as if he needs to be the perfect prototypical WR, when the reality is he is a difference maker. Can make contested catches, and has a second gear to take a pass to the house. And of course we know he can break tackles.

I'm just gonna appreciate him while he's here.

Same.

I'll wait to see their plan but this doesn't seem like a smart move.

Deebos good at football. Keeping good football players is smart

Well you gotta put a team together with the salary cap. I don't think it's smart paying our two stud receivers 50 mil while investing a 1st rd pick in a WR, having Cowing that is looking good so far and also Jennings. We need to put resources in other more glaring areas next year.

We have the draft where we can hit other positions (TE, OL, FB, NT/DT, DE, etc).

Hard to argue or complain with how this front office and regime has built and maintained a roster...especially considering how much of a bumbling, embarrassment they were for so long before Lynch and Shanahan's arrival.

My issues with Shanny in his failing the biggest moments and obstinance aside, no one will deny he's a top top coach in spite of it. And retaining him, Lynch, and the core of this team that we love...a team that should have hoisted at least 1 if not 2 Lombardi's...is delightful to see still.

The years of Erickson, Nolan, Singletary, Tomsula, and Kelly were an abject blight...

They have crushed me in not getting that elusive sixth but the high standard, way of managing and carrying this franchise, the expectations...that's all returned.

And for a long, long time, that's all I wanted. I think I have to remind myself of that when I replay the 2011-2013 and 2019-2024 heartbreakers.

Back for more. Go Niners!

My hope is: he stays healthy and Kyle makes sure he stays. He's my favorite player and the team will suffer without him. I feel like a lot of people don't realize how valuable he is on and off the field.
I think he stays.
