He was a threat last season. Injuries were nagging at him, but he was still a threat. But this year? Not as much. Why? He's only 28. He will be 29 in January. But I can't blame age. Not yet. Maybe in 6-7 years. But now? I don't see it.

I also don't see Purdy having the greatest of years either. I also notice the left side of the offensive line is not road grading like it did in previous seasons. Is it the play of the line? Is Trent Williams having an off season? The man is 36 years old. He will be 37 next season. Is that it? I can only tell you my observations. Perhaps defenses are doing something differently?

My guess is, and this is just a guess, it is the play of the line. It's just not as good as it was last season.

FWIW Trent still grading out as an elite level OT. Banks has been banged up since TC. Brendel is atrocious, we all know that.

honestly I don't think Deebo in the backfield has worked for a couple seasons. Like I said earlier he's a slant god, but overall he's not seeing those targets like he once was. I don't know if Brock just isn't seeing it, if he's just not as accurate there or if defenses are adjusting?

The offense is build around the running game, if that s**t isn't working this team isn't gonna win many games.

If you go back and watch our games Trent is good but not elite like in the past. Banks has sucked two years straight and Brendel is absolutely the worst starting center in the league. Moore and Bartch did a very good job blocking last week.
What I dont understand about Deebo is why they dont throw him 3 or 4 screens or bubbles per game. Thats an easy way to get him the ball in space and make teams account for it. Im not saying Deebo is the same but id bet it all that Andy Reid would find a way to get him the rock.

Banks didn't suck last yr. That's factually not true. He's also been hurt since TC.

trent is currently graded out as the 6th overall OT and that a "down" year that's been filled with his own tragedies and injuries.

Brendel blows, he's not the worst starting center in football right now.

Teams are reading that now and the edges are deflecting the attempts. Brock was picked vs. the Ravens trying it, and Darnold nearly picked vs. Washington the next week.

The team has outgrown Screenbo. When post-2019 Jimmy was unable to push off and deliver accurate footballs, he was a great fit. Now that the team has a real QB again, it's not necessary, and his atrocious route running hinders the offense.

Good take..Brendel is bad we do need to replace him and McKivitz. Banks is having a bad year but gives us a chance to sign him for a cheaper deal. Trent will be back next year after he has a chance to heal. The long seasons are taking their toll this year. CMC, Deebo, Ayuik and JJ are here next year we just need to resign Kittle. We don't save much releasing Deebo as has been pointed out in the forum. We need to look into free agency for a new center. Maybe we can find a better RT in the draft. If we make good adjustments we will be right back in it next year.

I posted this on another thread but I wonder if Banks could convert to center. Its not unprecedented. Randy Cross and Sapolu both switched at some point in their career. I have no idea if Banks has the skill set to do it but he's a lot bigger and would give them a much stronger presence in the middle.

I don't know if his drop off is due to his biological age, but Deebo has essentially played an extra season of football(12 games) in a truncated period when you factor in the playoffs. That's essentially 7 seasons of football in 6 years--a lot of strain, wear and tear in a short period of time with a shortened recovery period. Deebo does seem to have slowed down physically and it's mainly in his ability to run through defenders or break tackles like he did in the past. He isn't doing that anymore. But when you factor in his age with his violent playstyle for his entire life and the extended seasons, it makes sense that's he's slowing down.

Ray Ray McCloud with more receiving yards than Deebo this year
At the post-game presser after the game yesterday, Kittle was talking about guys needing to play with desperation that was seen 2 years ago. I think that was a message to Deebo.

He clearly does not have the same fire he used to. They designed plays for him yesterday where he went nowhere. 2 or 3 years ago he would have made big plays from.
With Deebo, I think it's pretty obvious and don't over analyze it. Many thought he would age/regress just like a RB due to his style and make up and that is exactly what is happening. He'll be 29 in January and this is playing out pretty much exactly as predicted.

When we signed him, I was glad it wasn't a real long contract because of this but just don't understand why we restructured his deal.
