There likely will be a season but the reason we may see a delay or shortened season is because the owners want to play in front of a stadium of people because as you implied they like their $. Some states may open up large gatherings later too complicating things.
I seriously doubt that California is going to allow fans. Trying to control 12-15 thousand fans would create a lot of problems. How do you keep them separated when they go to the bathroom? What about concessions which bring in huge amounts of money. There would be an issue entering and leaving the stadium as well. Usually football crowds tailgate and then all try to enter just before kickoff. How do you control the entry so they aren't all packed together? I still haven't seen what the plan is if a few players test positive or get really sick. Does the league just shut down or does that team forfeit it's next few games? Where do they play the games if some states allow games and others don't? Lot's of questions that need to be addressed before they can expect to have anything resembling a season. I look at the problems the other leagues are having trying to agree on parameters and I expect some of the same issues in the NFL.
