Keep him out, bring him Bach after the two NY games.

Why rest them when they're ready to go?

This. I'm puzzled at those saying he should sit out several games if he's cleared to go...

If he's ready to go why not play him? Obviously conditioning could limit total snaps but if he's healthy and cleared medically then he should play.

Yeah, let them play - they're raring to go.

Why rush them back and risk re-injury? I'd rather have him out for 2-3 games instead of 8-10 if he gets hurt again.

I hear you - it might be better in the long run to sit him a couple of games. But, being selfish I'd rather him play and win these games for us.

Because a jones fracture has a high probability of re-injuring and requiring a 2nd surgery...which would end his season.

A study that examined Jones fractures in NFL players revealed that recovery over 10 weeks greatly reduced the likelihood of re-injury. When Deebo steps on the field it will be just shy of 12 weeks, I believe....Makes me feel a little better BUT I wouldn't be upset if they let him sit out because he hasn't taken part in training
camp...Deebo has had hamstring issues in college and that's the perfect recipe to get one (just throwing him out there without any TC or real practices).

Also wouldn't hurt to give his foot a little longer to heal.

we will see

sit

That said, I'd only throw a few screens and slants to him. No fly sweeps or stress routes.

Yeah no way I can give him a full snap count...while worried about the foot, I'm also worried about soft tissue injuries.

Gonna be holding my breath week 1

That is probably the best bet...fewer plays and keep him away from the sharp breaking moves. Then let him gradually work his way into more time and then later , let him bring in his stress routes. Do that and we are most likely to get back into full time Deebo. Ease into it.
The recovery time for all injuries is different for each person. People recover at different rates so it's always kind of a crap shoot as to when they can come back and play. Getting past the mental part is part of the recovery but the chance of re-injury is always there. Injured parts are usually weaker. You have to come back eventually but I guess the longer you wait the better the injury can heal. It's really comes down to how confident the player is assuming the x-rays are negative.
Forget all that conservative mess. There is only 16 games on the schedule and you need the best on the field if they are able. All it takes is a slip up during these early season games and next thing you know you're sitting at 1-2 and staring at a very tough schedule over the next 2 months while also playing in the leagues toughest division. If he's medically cleared and he is confident in his body he should go.

It's only because sometimes doctors are wrong and freak accidents or reinjury's happen. We have not had the best luck with injuries the last six years so we are just assuming the pattern continues. Maybe a few extra weeks might get the bones stronger or more healed even if the doctors clear him to play.
Sometimes they get safer from injury when they are projected to play. Most of the things they have to work through are the mental side of the games, stretching, massage, etc with the trainers, and the walk-throughs with the team. On the other hand, while doing more rehab, they tend to push themselves a little bit more than they should and then injury occurs. Like I said, these things occur sometimes not all the times.

Looking for a Jerry rice type miracle recovery, ready to go week 1, lol.

Julian Eldeman had a Jones Fracture on 11/15 vs Giants back in 2015...He came back 1/16 for the playoffs and had 10 catches for 100 yards vs KC.

IMO the threshold for recovery is 10 weeks...by week 1 it should be around 12 weeks. I'm all for giving him two more weeks on top of that just to make sure

If he's ready by the opener - I'm inclined to play him, even though the prudent thing to do, is rest him the first two games.

I think we can handle Arizona and the Jets without DeeBo. Give him the extra 2 weeks.

Yeah, I'm really starting to lean that way.

and the giants too. Let him start practicing week 2-3 and he'll be ready by week 4 at home vs philly

i am not arrogant to think we can just show up and teams will lay down. if he is healthy. no matter who it is. you play your best people
Every game counts. Don't need the season to come down to an inch like last year.
agree.. this.. oh we can beat them without our best wide out. if he is healthy it is stupid not to play him. i do not care if we are going to play the poor sisters of mary

Right. Thinking other teams will just lay down is how we lost to ATL last year.
you guys are smart

So even if his doctors look at imaging and say he is 100% healed AND he has responded well to extensive training (by all accounts he has)... we should still hold him out? Based on what? Emotion? PTSD? Awful comparisons to Taylor's entirely different recovery?

If you still want to hold him about DESPITE the doctor's blessing (should he receive it) just admit your option is based on fear and not logic. He's 12 weeks post injury. If the doctor clears him, he's fine.

some think we can just show up and other teams will just roll over.. on the contrary.... because of what the niners did last year. they will get everyones best shot. every week. and as you said.. if he gets cleared... there is no reason. none to not play him because he is a huge piece of our pie
