You're assuming that your rankings are correct. In reality, fans are mostly clueless on valuing players properly. You had many people here advocating for Metcalf to go in the early 1st. We're almost in the 3rd round and he and Butler are both still on the board.

My assessment is purely that he's not a defined X, Z, slot or special teamer. Generally speaking the first 3 rounds are dominated by single position players who have a chance to start at a similar role. Drafting tweeners, multi-position and depth happens in rounds 4+.

He's definitely faster than Kendrick.

I like Deebo but I wanted AJ Brown. I also didnt want Dante Pettis last year. I trust that Kyle knows who he needs more than me.

Why?

Deebo is slightly faster, has a bigger vertical, bigger broad jump. Aside from a 1 inch height advantage, Deebo is better in almost every way than AJ Brown.

Go knights

Lance Zierlein of NFL.com, who compares Samuel to Pharoh Cooper, wrote the following about Samuel within his scouting report:

"Tyshun "Deebo" Samuel lives up to his nickname (it comes from a tough guy in the movie "Friday") and plays each game like he's stepping into an alley fight. While Samuel is tough and competitive, he lacks suddenness and might need scheme help with motion and bunch formations to help free him against NFL man coverage.

Reminds me of Stevie Smith - tough guy who wasn't fast but always open. Samuel is built about like Smith.

Smith - 5'9", 195 - played 16 seasons, ave 14.3/catch.
Samuel - 5'11", 215
Or, Pierre Garcon - 6', 212

Lacking suddenness could not be further from the truth

Zierlein was so off with that assessment.

lol, I'm with ya man. I hope they prove me wrong, but I hate that this is their prototype.

I hate that this is their prototype too. Can't we have just 1 big WR on this team? I know 2 is too much to ask for.

I don't think Lynch / Shanahan are good at working the draft.
Could have traded back and got Deebo plus a 3rd

Bet ya he starts on our team sooner rather then later. Did you say the same thing last year about Pettis? Oh he's primarily a punt/kick returner and receiver second...

My post was only about Samuel being a tough guy like Smith who was always open. "Suddeness" suddenly becomes irrelevant when no one can cover dude.
they keep drafting these Jerry Rice claws of death type WRs.

We have a type now....shifty under 6 football guys that have serious snagging ability.

Debbo is another one of these abnormally large handed WRs......

Maybe Shanny 2.0 hates dropped balls?

Yeah I'll be honest, AJ Brown playing exclusively at slot was a pretty big red flag for me. Same reason I'd rather convert an OT to OG, I firmly believe high end NFL players should play the hardest position on their college team. If you can't dominate at the hardest position of your position group then I question how you can dominate anywhere in the NFL.

Just wish he had that break away speed

You can have breakaway speed, but cant make people miss - same thing from a different perspective. What I like is RAC's in the WCO, and I dont recall Jerry Rice ever trying out for the olympics.

You don't need to be faster than every DB when you can create huge separation off of your route running and when the ball is in your hands you can break arm tackles with ease.

I can't see this kid failing to hit his ceiling if he stays healthy. Most knew the second they saw him eating at the senior bowl that Kyle would be in love. He's going to be our #1 WR before the end of the season. Deebo, Pettis, and Kittle have a chance to be one of the best receiving trio's in football.

Well soon they should be. They have the best WR coach since Tom Coaughlin coaching them in Kyle.

That is based entirely your opinion. The team has a specific role in mind for him. Much like the Broncos who took Dalton Risner who was a terrific OL prospect with an unknown NFL role. They'll likely have him play center in the NFL.

For the 49ers, Samuel is clearly the replacement for Garcon. He adds a physical dimension that the other receivers don't possess. The team also had the benefit of spending a week working with him at the Senior Bowl, running him through plays in their offense.
