Yes, QB is the most important position. However, in 2017, prior to the 2018 off-season, Jimmy was NOT the leader of the team the way Deebo is today. That didn't happen until the subsequent months after. Jimmy was not the guy that lit the collective fires of the whole team. He wasn't the guy leading the charge onto the field and setting the tone. He became the steady, calm center in the storm; the rock upon which the guys depended, there is no doubt about that. But I don't think he's ever been the fire, and he certainly wasn't in 2017.

Leadership takes shape in many ways. You can lead by example, or by fire and willpower. You can exude confidence and strut your way to leadership. I can guarantee that the team rallied around Garoppolo with every game in 2017 as the team that started 1-10 without him, finished 6-10 with him. The day they brought him into the building to be 'the saviour' also planted seeds of leadership, so with every win, he gained more of a stranglehold on the team.

So yes....Garoppolo was every bit the leader practically from Day 1.

Nah, not from Day 1. He probably didn't start really crossing that threshold until the Titans game, with that game winning drive. Regardless, they still didn't have a "dog," as Jerry Rice described it. And now they have one. And they better not lose him.

Yup. Day 1. That's the QB position, and when a team makes a notable trade for them, the whole team takes notice. It only escalated with every win when he was inserted into the lineup.

Funny that you should mention Rice and his 'dogs' comment. He made that comment what? 6 or so weeks into the season, and the one guy that sorta responded was Jimmie Ward....and I don't think he mentioned Deebo by name as to say he was a 'dog.'

They may have a dog in Deebo, but if the brinks are backed up, he had better remain a dog.

Sure, he wasn't getting quite as many snaps the first two games, but he was still playing quite a bit. My guess is that the entire thing came from Aiyuk being pissed off that he wasn't getting the ball when he was open, and then the "conversation" ensued. I base that on absolutely nothing other than the fact that unlike, Pettis, Aiyuk wasn't benched. He just wasn't getting the ball, for the first two games his snap percentage was lower than 67%.

As a Kyle Shanahan receiver, Deebo has developed significantly better than Aiyuk + Pettis as a wide receiver in his system. Deebo knows and executes the Kyle passing scheme and concepts better. The minor details, movements, adjustments, and the selling is what sets him apart from other receivers that just run routes really well in a route tree and can beat someone one-on-one. You need to be able execute the entire package of Kyle's offense.

Deebo isn't perfect. He makes mistakes like other young receivers. But his knowledge and understanding of Shanahan offense is so high that even when he is lined up in the wrong part of the formation, he can communicate with others like Sherfield with gestures and still execute Kyle's pass concept/scheme. Example: Eagles game at 5:54 mark where he talks to Sherfield and turns a wrong formation lineup into a big gain.

No, Jerry didn't mention it then. He said there were none. But by the end of the season, we had one, and his name was Deebo.
Just pay Deebs pay Nick Joey and flip JG for a 4th and be done with it

Yup....so for half a season, in his only season, Deebo was a 'dog.' Which is precisely why I'm not gonna just say 'pay the man' because so many of those contracts turn into comments like 'why did you pay that POS?'

Again...I'll let things play out.....

Bosa was unstoppable. Armstead played his best 49ers football. DJ Jones, Ebukam, Omenihu all played big roles. Warner was impressive in the PO with a terrific game against the Packers.
And I think that Deebo Samuel is the third best WR in the franchise history after Jerry and Owens. Deebo was unreal don´t get me wrong just like Trent Williams was all season. But man the defense at the end of the season was amazing.

Deebo is the best WEAPON we have had since rice.. running.. catching.. yac.. kick return and yes throwing it out of the back field.. that can not be disputed

lie,, he had a very very very good rookie season.. i can not believe some fans want him to prove it.. he proved it to me last year with his play and i saw what he did. put the team on his back

Sure. I just said he was for me third best WR in the franchise history. But let´ s just not forget how important the defense was. I mean, 17 points against Dallas, 10 against GB and even 20 against the Rams. The defense has been great in the second half of the season.
Just saw Deebo in ad for Walmart. Maybe that will get him down to about 20mil

Yeah the constant fan perspective mirroring that of the front office is baffling to me. I understand that the best thing for the team is getting great players at a discount. However home grown superstar players are a must sign. Look at the Buckner debacle, fans were unhappy as they should be. It didn't work as well as hoped. We are talking about the billionaire York family versus Deebo, a kid who grew up in a lower income family. I hope Deebo gets paid what he's worth by us. With the current market 25 mil per year as an average with something in the high 40m to mid 50m range is fair imo. Making him the 4th highest wr on average salary and in the top 4 or the most gauranteed is not that big of a deal again imo. It's the wr market right now and I think he is in that top echelon especially when taking into account his fit with this scheme. Lastly the constant harping on injury is tired and old. These player put their heart and soul into this game AND most importantly they put their body, minds and lives on the line to entertain us. They absolutely should demand pay before play and the fact that a lot of fans want to throw them out with the trash and s**t on them when they do get hurt is so heartless and infuriating. It's the front office's job to conduct business like it's business, cold hearted fans are not going to change the total salary cap hit.
