I know Deebo is staying but can we please trade for Shenault anyways?

Would have to be after Jimmy is cut. Or some contracts get worked.

I wanted him back but it's not worth the headache at this point. We used him the way we did because of Jimmys limitations and Mostert being out. I think we can find normal WR production now that we have a QB who can utilize the whole field. A WR making 25m is what the bad teams do to stay bad
"With the signing bonus for the extension, it actually impacts the cap every year of his entire contract, rather than just the years extended. This means that Rodgers' signing bonus will be worth $5 million against the cap each year for the next seven years. Any previous signing bonus will still count for the years under the previous contract."

This is what I believe the hold up is with extending Deebo. ATM, they do not have the cap space to sign their rookies and give Deebo a signing bonus. The signing bonus accounts for every year of the contract, not just the extended years.

Draft is only thing holding things up I believe. We have multiple ways to open up cap.

We had the $$$ before we started signing special teams guys, camp fodder and depth

We will still have it once needed. Right now the draft matters first.

The rumor is the 49ers are asking for 2 first round picks for Deebo. It probably isn't worth it for the other 31 teams in the league. However, that maybe what he is worth to the 49ers. The chances of a 1st round pick becoming the equivelant or surpassing what Deebo means for this team are unlikely. I really don't believe that the organization is ready to move on and it really will take a king's ransom to pry Deebo away from the 49ers.

They can always tag him and trade him next year.

Agreed. If the Niners got Hamilton at 10, packaged 35 and another pick to trade up for Linderbaum, and got the best available edge at 38 and best available WR at 61, it would be hard to argue that the team wouldn't be better off without Deebo.

Except that is fantasy land to expect that trade compensation
He ain't going anywhere.

Why trade Deebo for anything less than fantasy land?
Please don't go Deebo 😔

You don't.
So after today, we'll have one of three situations:
  • A dramatically different team (assuming we trade with the jets for 10, 38, and others) [Jermaine Jefferson and Christian Watson]
  • Deebo's still on the team and we're planning to pay him top dollar (and therefore he'll be at All Pro level for a few more season before he breaks down and his contract becomes an albatross)
  • Deebo's still on the team and we're forcing him to play out his rookie deal, he'll get a boatload of soft tissue injuries and we'll have a toxic situation that will reduce his eventual trade value (it'll never get better than it is right now)
