  • Deebo's still on the team and we're forcing him to play out his rookie deal, he'll get a boatload of soft tissue injuries and we'll have a toxic situation that will reduce his eventual trade value (it'll never get better than it is right now)

and for the record, I don't think we'll trade him

1. I think the team purposely waits until after the draft to deal with extensions just so they know exactly what resources the team has and so that they don't feel forced to target specific players. We have seen them manipulate what other teams know about their players pre-draft (Asking Staley to delay his retirement announcement until after the draft).

2. Deebo's agent is trying to make his entire career this year. With A.J. Brown, D.K. and Deebo up for extensions, this agent's reputation and main earning potential for the rest of his career are on the line. So he was impatient with the team's reluctance to make a big money offer and decided to try to leverage the upcoming draft into a way to get his client attention. He and Deebo didn't REALLY want a trade. They wanted the league talking about Deebo for as long as possible. Deebo's stats, clutch performances, and league comparisons have been all over ESPN and talk radio for the last week. This coverage has lead to 31 other teams and their fan bases drooling over what THEIR team would look like if only THEY had Deebo.

3. His agent got a win when he got the team to agree to allow Deebo permission to seek a trade. That permission comes with permission to negotiate an extension with other GMs. I guarantee 2-3 teams have put a specific offer in front of Deebo and his agent. He can use those numbers when he negotiates with the Niners. I think this was the goal the whole time. It was essentially market research.

4. I predict a 4 year extension for Deebo to be agreed upon and signed sometime in mid-June. There will be no more talk of "personal issues" between he and the team. That deal will be a record breaking deal in some way.

5. The biggest danger of this negotiation tactic is if the team actually agreed to trade Deebo. But that is why I think his agent chose this tactic for Deebo and not his other clients. Deebo is an All-pro coming off a historic statistical season and a playoff run fueled mainly by him. The Niners would risk huge backlash by trading Deebo even for a "Godfather" deal. Seattle is in rebuild mode, so they would have easily cut ties with DK for the right price. A.J. Brown is a superstar in the making, but Henry is arguably the more important offensive weapon. Deebo has the most leverage over his team so his agent knew any trade deal was going to have to be enormous and no team would give up huge draft capital without an extension in place. That extension was going to have to be north of 25 million a year, so it would still be a win for team Deebo.

Stay calm and Deebo on.

Great post

Ditto, great post. I hope you're right. What we don't know is if Deebo has already had informal discussions with other teams. There could be a trade already pending, and the Niners have a player or two they're targeting at #10 and if those players are there, they'll pull the trigger. Who knows.

He's going to the bank with Jimmy's money 💰
That was the plan all along, IE the social media crying and trade request media leaks.
(Other Ex: over paid choke Rodgers got paid again, adams left to Raiders for his own 💰, similar to KC)

I think if we had a couple guys on our radar we would have visited with them in some way. We haven't even talked to any top guys.

Didn't it come out that the Niners asked some of the players not to disclose their meeting?
I think he gone. The way he comments on all the drama about him like it wasn't his fault in the first place wreaks of T.O. But atleast T.O. Backed it up on the field consistently for years before he went crazy. This dude gets a taste of stardom and goes full diva overnight

I didnt see that if true. That could be interesting.

The chances of a 1st round pick becoming the equivelant or surpassing what Deebo means for this team are unlikely. I really don't believe that the organization is ready to move on and it really will take a king's ransom to pry Deebo away from the 49ers.

They can always tag him and trade him next year.

I am aware. I stated such some pages back.
Deebos best football as a 49er is behind him. I don't see a disgruntled superstar sacrificing his body if he hasn't been paid for it, and I don't see a paid superstar sacrificing his health when he doesn't want to be used as a wrecking ball anymore. And even if he did decide to completely forget all this mess and re-dedicate himself to the team…. He's gonna get hurt if we keep using him in that capacity

He was (past tense) our best player. He is no longer our best player.

Trade this dude and stop dwelling on the past. "Offensive weapons" like Deebo, Percy, Leveon etc are flashes in the pan. That's the whole reason he doesn't want to be used that way…it shortens your career.

Solely as a receiver he's slightly above average… wouldn't be a number one on any other team in our division.

And that's what he wants to be… a receiver. And I don't blame him.

I think once he gets the ball in his hands he's way above average but I agree the whole RB thing needs today too. Average receivers don't break the tackles that Deebo does or run block down field like a TE the way he does. As much as I think he's being a douchebag, I'm not gonna sit here and discredit how awesome of a player he is
