In total agreement! Ford should just retire for his sake.

1. He probably starts the year on IR as he rehabs. If all goes well, he could be back just in time to help IF the CB unit is underperforming or dealing with injuries.

2. While he rehabs, he can help all of these young CBs transition into the pros. This guy knows what it takes to be one of the best in the league. He also knows the importance of taking care of your body. What better mentor could you want for a unit that will have two rookies and two year 1 guys?

3. This is a culture signing. This dude has been there, done it, and had to come back, over and over and over. The team is showing that it takes care of guys who put the work in and sacrifice. The team could have easily let him rehab on his own and signed him later if an emergency arose. Instead, they are committing their resources to his health and getting his mentorship and the possibility of all-star level play. Win-win-win.

If healthy, going to be same nice competition between Thomas, Verrett and Moseley for that #2 corner spot.

Agreed, but if healthy I think Verrett wins. If healthy and someone else wins (preferably Thomas), that would be HUGE for our secondary going forward.

Can't understand why people are remotely jazzed about this or have any sort of expectation.

His body is broken. This man's career is over. He's played one season out of the past 30. This signing is a complete non-factor. He's getting the Dee Ford treatment and collecting a paycheck on an exercise bike.

Seems like a nice dude and was great for that ONE season. But that was the exception, not the rule. He's 31 on busted legs that require quick stop and redirection.

I don't know why they signed other than his vet presence and out of the kindness of their hearts.

1) People are excited because he is a really good corner when he plays.

2) Everyone here knows his body is broken, Like literally every-freaking-one. Even people who poo poo on the FO are excited about this. Why? Because anything we get from the guy is a plus. If we get nothing at all, it's a vet minimum deal and we move on at little cost to us.

3) What talented player are you going to get for vet minimum?

4). This isn't anywhere near a Dee Ford deal. Dee Ford is getting paid like he's a starting, 3 down edge rusher. We could sign Verrett for like 8 years for what Dee Ford gets in one.

5). They signed him because it's low risk, high reward. They signed him because if healthy, we have 3, possibly 4 starting corners (Ward, Verrett, Mosely, Thomas). Nobody in the league has that. Many teams don't have more than one. A healthy Verrett easily gives us our best group of corners since 2011 (Rogers, Brown, Culliver, Cox, Brock).

good re sign. at least he has a body of all pro work.. bill walsh said you can never have enough cornerbacks.. last year he HAD to be the man.. with the addition of our nice free agent.. and some other guys at cb... you can ease this guy in. whatever you get is gravy for not much risk.. and when he has produced gravy it is quality gravy. hell.. worse case. he is a back up.... it would be better than what we had in norman last year coming off the bench, i only wish they could fine a decent safety out there

Ew Matthieu.

well. he sure as hell would be better than tartt which will be a typical reactive lynch move
I'm happy to have him back and compete with our young corners. Now bring Tart back and let's go get a super bowl ring.
