"So, we're happy to come to an agreement with Jason and give him that opportunity to rehab under us. And we'll see where that goes." ~ Lynch

Signing Jason Verrett cost the 49ers $0 (yes, zero) in effective salary-cap space.

It's indeed a low-risk flier deal for 49ers/Verrett: $1.12m base salary and a salary-cap hit of only $895k, thanks to a veteran salary exception (h/t @FieldYates). Top-51 rule nullifies cap hit

Sounds about right. 49ers already paid him for not doing much in 2019 and 2021.

I'm guessing Tartt ends up doing something similar. They made a lot of these deals last offseason

Not sure I would go down this road but Lynch seems to be approaching it with his eyes open. If Verrett manages to stay healthy for a whole year then it's obviously a plus but seriously, what do we think the odds of that happening are. For his sake I hope it works out. Eight years in the league and six of them ended up with him going on IR with major injuries. Can't even imagine what that must be like for him, especially since he has played at such a high level on the two occasions he has avoided being hurt.
Was talking about this with a football junkie friend of mine. I really hope JV gets into coaching after his playing days and has immense success in that venture where his name will live forever in football. This guy when healthy was as lockdown a CB as we've seen since Prime and should be on his way to the hall of fame but his body could never hold up. I hope he has a great story book ending he played the game the right way.
