More like got that contract because of elite play a few years ago and we were hoping to get some of that here.

Damage goods usually never pan out unless ur name is Frank Gore. Dumbass Lynch needs to stop gambling on Injury prone players N start focusing on players who can actually contribute to this team

I said injury prone players, Alexander hasn't been that type of player who's injured for most of their career. I was referring more down the line like Ward, Garnett N Verrett, they keep giving chances to dudes can't even stay healthy. So yeah u fail with ur response try again little guy

The hit rate on any "goods" such as draft picks and free agent signings are very low. So why not take a chance on a proven vet? Who did it hurt that we signed a one year flyer on Verrett?

you can still question his moves and decisions in my opinion. in 1990 the niners were not playing well at all. we kept winning with no run game. craig had lost it, finally ended in a loss to the giants. we fans enjoyed the winning but it did not stop us from being critical of moves george was making. and for the record i was happy to get jason in here. i am just upset they signed johnson as a replacement. yuk,, hell.. the guy we signed to the practice squad is probably better. yes. i know coaches know better. trust the coaches etc... still as fans its fine to be thrilled to 3-0 but still critique and yes be critical of things. and for the record. i am very pleased with mathews back on the team. i do not think he is as terrible or as soft as some think, and we could have done worse

Yes, it's okay to critique the team and not be called a clown, troll, or any other sort of insult. We are all 49er fans here.

The injury thing is what it is, to some extent you have to try and buy low/ sell high when you have a team that has little talent. Even now that we are at a competitive level, the nature of the cap era is that you need to try and find bargains on depth players. Guys like Verrett are attempts to swing for the fence. Maybe he finally gets health and you get a pro bowl corner for nickels on the dollar, maybe he is as fragile as advertised and you have to replace him with a lunch pail guy. The thing is as a depth signing, there will be another lunch pail guy later...so why not take a chance. It gets troubling when you sign a high priced free agent with a lengthy history but I haven't seen Lynch do that. Usually if it is a big signing they might have a single big injury, something you can come back from, but not a repeated issue. He is guilty of holding on to some fragile guys too long, but until one of those porcelain dolls is keeping us from signing a starter I don't really sweat it. Ward for example may be tissue paper, but what we would have kept in his place, we can still get off the street so even though he isn't the guy I would have kept, it doesn't piss me off that he is still here. Now next year if we are still not set at Safety and Corner and he is still here in place of starting talent or a young draft pick...then you have to start questioning. Clearly a high end prospect or two in the O-line and Secondary are the last pieces we need to call the roster overhaul complete.

But its the same group of people who all they do is complain.
The fact is we are in year 3 of a complete rebuild and we finally have a competitive roster. Not every roster move will be the correct one as no GM in the history the NFL has made the right decision each and every time. You're considered a great talent evaluator if you can hit on 3 of your 7 draft picks and free agency is just the same. Picking up players who don't make it is part of the job.

Garnett wasn't injury prone when he was drafted. He was considered one of the best guards in the draft but he missed a lot of camp like Thomas because of the schedule at Stanford. He started getting hurt once he began practicing. Someone had Lattimore on his list but that was back when we were good and he was considered a long shot risk that we could afford. Gore was still in his prime and they figured they could afford to risk a mid round pick since they didn't need a back at the time. It didn't work but if he had recovered like Gore did he could have been a great back. Tank was a similar risk and I remember a lot of people on this forum were excited about how good we would be after Tank took the entire year off. Two big risks that didn't work but looked okay at the time. Bringing in Verrett wasn't a risk. They didn't pay him a lot and we was only brought in to see if he had anything left after those injuries. I doubt they ever thought he would be the starter and maybe not even the first off the bench. All the teams in the league take chances on guys that were hurt, cut from several teams or had off field problems. It's part of the game.
