Jordan Matthews part of a great WR 2014 class. Always had the talent to be top 3 from that class. Just needs consistency.

Despite his 6-foot-3, 212 frame, Matthews' bread and butter in the league has come in the slot. During his time as an Eagle (2014-16), Pro Football Focus notes that no receiver had more yards than Matthews out of the slot. Matthews also had three straight seasons in Philly of over 800 yards receiving and over 65 catches with 2015 proving to be his most productive totaling 85 catches for 997 yards and eight touchdowns.

Along with the slot, Matthews could be an impact pass catcher in the red zone for New England. Over the course of his career, he's been able to haul in 28 of his 45 targets in the red zone for 15 touchdowns.

Big red zone target and an upgrade in the slot. Another smart move by our front office.

Yep, will be a starter in the slot. I can just see Jimmy using him as a security blanket.

ehh... odell, mike evans, cooks, adams, landry. thats tough to say.
Just read a stat that 16 of his 22 career tds were in the red zone. I'm willing to guess thats one of the main reasons why we brought him in.

Does he still have that 4.46 speed?

He's only 26, he probably still does.

Let's hope so. Looks like he did based on his long td catch last year.

No he's not. Has played roughly 65-70% of his career snaps from the slot. That is where you want him at to get the most out of him.

I know Chip used him in the slot a lot. PHI used him on the outside last season quite often. I'm watching his catches from 2018. I think he is Bourne's competition for a roster spot.

I agree with this. Slot competition is already pretty intense:

James vs Taylor

That's what we need. I felt like we lacked that last year. We have a lot of that in the offense now. Especially in the RB position.
I like this signing, he needs to put together a good year.

Oh I agree it's just that I can't see Matthews primarily playing slot. If anything because of his size, he'll be outside more that Petits will be. I agree with thl - this is a warning to Bourne. Very similar (sized) receivers.

Yup. Lynch is sending messages with these signings. Step up or find a new team or job.

And I hope he keeps doing that everywhere on the roster :).

Same. I want us to get at least one more FS. That's where I'm disappointed at so far.

Matthews is 6'3 212, Bourne is 6'1 203. Bourne was our biggest receiver last year but Matthews is bigger. Bourne was an UDFA. Matthews, a second rounder. Kyle is bringing in competition. While Bourne performed well, let the best man win. Or, if we can keep both, that's cool too. Bourne was 4.68 at the combine, Matthews 4.46. 9 reps for Bourne, 21 for Matthews. Matthews has much bigger hands.

Bourne is a poor mans Matthews. Matthews has the talent to excel, hopefully Young Shanny can get it out of him.

We re-signed Ward and Exum so it's not likely. But Berry or Boston would be awesome IMHO.
