Anytime a guy that flashes talent, but not producing consistently on the field, his mind ain't right.
Very disappointing 2nd year.

Yah I root for every niner player when the game is on.
no one here roots for a player to fail. that is just another fallacy in my opinion. i have never rooted for pettis to fail. he has just been taking care of that himself
People tend to fall back to the "you are rooting against him to prove your point" fallacy when their argument starts to look more and more silly. It's similar to calling someone a hater.
Well several posters on the zone exhibit traits that demonstrate that they would rather be right about a player not being good enough than actually rooting for them to succeed. NO ONE is arguing that Dante Pettis is currently a #1 WR. Some of us are simply stating that he has the ability to be one, and we hope that he becomes one. Others are saying it's a 100% certainty that it will never happen. When you cling to an argument with that much negativity, you invite criticism from fans who love their team and players above being "right."
Well I for one am still willing to give the benefit of the doubt to certain players: Thomas, Goodwin...difficult life situations and others:Street...injury issues. But other guys like Varrett and McKinnon the injury histories and severity just don't warrant the risk.
Pettis to me is in a different category. As previously mentioned you can't coach desire and either a guy has the fearless gene or he doesn't. I don't see Pettis getting better, but I do hope that he proves me wrong. I don't think the odds are in his favor however.

Definitely has the talent. Came from a great family (know them personally), was great in HS and college. He showed it playing with Mullens last year. Question is "why is he not the same this year?" What's the difference? Sophomore slump? Injury? Chemistry with Jimmy El Guapo?
Dante has the skills and talent, but needs to perform under pressure consistently. I always tell my girls who are competitive in sports "Hustle beats talent when talent doesn't hustle."

Let's keep it on Pettis, not posters.

You can laugh all you want. It makes no sense for a 49er fan to want a player we invested a lot in to fail. .

Love this. I think he has the potential, but that is all it is until he wants to put it all together. I don't think he has the urgency to succeed

Agreed. The worst case for a wrong negative take is..."damn, we got another good player"

He has so much talent that the undeveloped part is yet to be revealed. In other words, No.

That quote sums up Pettis. He has oodles of natural talent. But he is just not producing consistently for whatever reason. I would really love to see him start balling but the fact is he isn't and his form this year has been garbage right from the pre season. Yes he has had a couple of really good plays but then his performances just falls off a cliff.
I would love to see him break out but I don't think he is going to. I can see him being waived or not making the roster next year unless he really lifts his game.

I dont know why anyone who thinks one of our players sucks would want to be proven right rather than proven wrong. I hope Solomon Thomas is the next Aaron Donald and all of my past posts look foolish. That would be the best case for everyone.

Props to sanders for calling out these immature slacker players.
