Talent and potential yes. Heart and desire no. He'll still get one more year to prove himself before they let him go

From what I gathered, the big incident on WZ spilled over to the Pettis thread. I don't know what exactly was said because I missed it and the thread was locked and later removed.
I assume the issue in the Pettis thread was the same group of trolls attacking a certain well respected user that was asking for help.
Sorry for being vague, but I can't name names.

Fans want to cut players out resentment that they're under-performing, or not living up to expectations. It's about vengeance, not team construction.
Everyone wanting to cut Arik Armstead year after year is a good example of that.
Pettis has another two years under a cheap contract, for which it doesn't make sense to cut him unless there's five or six people better than him.
For that not to be the case it means they have to re-sign two people (Sanders and Bourne), Hurd has to be better than Pettis, and there has to not be any injuries next year before that decision is made.
The WR position next year is going to be like the DB positions this year: despite our protestations they've already invested the capital they're going to invest in it, and they're going to go with what they've got.

I like his skillset. Solid route runner, but this man needs to toughen up. He has what it takes to be a very legit #2, but he really needs to become a man on the field.

He definitely has the talent. Most fans won't question that. Talent alone won't cut it however. His talent is not such (like a Randy Moss) where he can be a top receiver without even trying. With hard work, he can be a really good/dominant number 2. If he continues to have a top tier QB, he could be a number 1 when matched with the great work ethic. However the part that he can control, we aren't seeing that.

Spot on. I don't like people who get great opportunities in life and then sit on their behinds and don't put in the extra effort. I bet there are a lot of guys with talent who didn't get the opportunities that Pettis has had. That is why I am not impressed with him. If he changes that and puts in maximum effort then I will be more then happy for him with the success he will get. But where he is now and if I were management I would waive him at the end of the season and resign him to the practice squad if he is unclaimed, which he well might be.

Hey NC you made the last comment in that thread. Must have been in some type of code or something and then it got shut down. Maybe you can translate it? lol

Haha...I'd like to think I'm more of a reason the thread exists than shut down.

My prediction for Dante. He'll never get his head into the game. Niners will cut him and he'll sign elsewhere and play out the rest of a short career as a marginal WR3 who snags 4 or 5 TDS a year at best. This guy has zero interest in taking the steps required to be a successful NFL player. He's the anti Jerry Rice.
