Does Dante Pettis have the talent and potential to be a #1 WR for this team?

He's a good player, but more of 2 or 3 if you ask me. He's fast and gets separation, but not well rounded. I don't see him fighting for the ball or being a real red zone threat. Great player outside the 20s.

He is a high end #2 if he can stay healthy. He is somewhat fast, runs good routes, catches the ball and makes plays. He's too skinny to be a #1. He isn't strong enough.

So by your logic AB and OBJ cant be a number one, marvin harrison cant either. Not every number one needs to be 6'2+ 210+.

Nope, at best he's a 3rd or 4th wr. Dude is soft like cotton candy.

Let's just leave it at that for now.

It's up to him how good he wants to be.

I will say, he is the only 49er player I follow on Twitter that never talks about football. He does have a whole slew of other interests. Like last year, Kyle had to really crack down on him, called him out and ensure he's focused on helping this team. That does worry me.

And his wiggle...blessing (shake) / curse (injuries)

He didn't call him out for having other interests...let's make sure we're not twisting things around. As long as he's putting in his time I don't care if he's not tweeting about football all the time.

Curtis Martin wasn't a huge football fan and had a HOF career. Hopefully Pettis can do that as well and watch all the cartoons he wants.

I think you got it twisted. He got called out by his coach because he wasn't 100% into the expectations set and needed to be recalibrated. He talked about it too. It worked.

For "this team" folks....that's the question. YES! Who else is gonna be the number one Bourne? He can't even find his identity.

Goodwin? Nah. He's fast. That's it. Is it Jordan Mathews? We'll see.

Maybe we'll draft one soon, but for now, I see him as our number one out of this current group.
Relax ppl.. maybe the training staff was s**tty... I believe it was. To have that many injuries is a problem. National emergency.. build a staff. Lets have Mexico pay for it

Yes. And his cat licking itself TD celebration is awkwardly hilarious
He's a nice threat but get real if you think this guy has the focus and wherewithal to be a #1. He's frankly kind of embarrassing. His social media screams trisomy-21 to me. I actually work with autism patients as a second job and his 'cat' pantomimes are very similar to the symptoms a lot of them exhibit.

He might be functional and I hope he develops into a decent number #2. But if you think this guy is a number one you probably lick your wrists and pretend to be a cat.

I can see him as a potential number one based on his skills and pedigree . But until I see that fight that you speak of, he will continue to be situational (and sensational), but not number one, go-to.

I think at this point...no one knows. #1 WR come in all different shapes, sizes, and game styles. Jerry Rice, Terrell Owens, Randy Moss, Calvin Johnson, Andre Johnson, Antonio Brown, Julio Jones, OBJ and many others were/are all #1 WRs but all played very differently. Rice, Moss, AB weren't/aren't the guys that would manhandle DBs for the ball. Precise route runners, shifty, and experts at knowing what each defender was doing then exploiting the crack.

Unless Pettis starts doing roids or grows 3 iches, he isn't going to be the Owens/Jones/Megatron. I do think if he focuses his skill set and works hard to improve himself...he still could be a #1 type WR. 70/1100/8 YDs in a full season isn't out of the realm of possibility for him. Those are #1 type numbers. Will he get there...who knows.
If he draws coverage, runs good routes and opens up the middle for high percentage Kittle gains I'm good with that too.
