A couple of others on that list probably won't make the cut, throw Bourne back into the mix.

Who the hell is this Leroy cat?!!

LOL. Leroy is a veteran off ball LB with ST skills.

I could see another T over Johnson.
Offense
QB: Garoppolo, Mullens, Beathard
RB: Coleman, Breida, Mostert
FB:Juszczyk
TE: Kittle, Smith
WR:Samuel, Goodwin
WR:Pettis, Bourne, Hurd
Slot:Taylor, Matthews
LT:Staley, Coleman
LG:Tomlinson
C:Richburg, Garland
RG:Person, Reynolds
RT:Mcglinchey, Skule

Defense
LE: Ford, Armstead
DT:Buckner, Street, Taylor
NT:Jones, Thomas
RE:Bosa, Blair
MLB:Warner, Greenlaw
WLB: Alexander, Mayo
SLB: Lee, Nzeocha
LCB:Sherman, Harris
RCB:Verrett, Witherspoon
NCB: Williams, Reed
FS: Moore, Colbert
SS: Tartt, Harris

Special Teams
K: Gould
P: Wishnowsky
LS: Holba

I have a feeling Mckinnon and Ward are probably gonna start the season on PUP, if not cut. In this scenario I have them keeping only two TE being that they could utilize Hurd and Juszczyk in more of a hybrid role.

Thanks. This is a totally new defense. I've been listening to numerous podcasts with scheme focus and it sounds like the traditional 1T might be done in this wide 9 scheme. As a result players like the old Earl Mitchell and now, D.J. Jones won't be valued as much. Instead, Kocurek may be looking for more active 3T/4i type of gap-shooters. Guys who can disrupt in the backfield. Also, less need for Big Ends and Big LEO's...more speed rushers which is why Moore was probably brought back. In addition, you need 3 real off ball linebackers now and the depth need to add ST value as well. Scheme changes require different players. I don't think the FO is done either.

Makes sense if ShanaLynch is confident that they will be playing with a lead most of the time. I remember the '94 49ers pretty much scoring on the first drive and the defense was in pass rush mode the rest of the game. In other words, if Kyle is confident his offense can score, then he'll force the other offense into passing a lot and hence the wide 9, monte kiffen one gap scheme is more appropriate than the 4-3 with 3-4 personnel defense.

DJ Jones is not a traditional nose. He's not even 300 lbs. Furthermore, if you're playing a wide 9, you need a stout 2tech on your strong side because that's who's getting dug out by the center and guard. Otherwise, IOL will easily work to the second level to the LBs.

I think DJ Jones is a lock to make the team.

I agree with this premise but would assume Day gets cut instead. Jones adds the stout run stopping NT that we don't have anywhere else on the roster. I do see a scenario where Moore makes the team but not at Jones' expense.

I thought Jones was 320 at the combine.

I see. I guess I disagree that he's not a traditional nose. Even at 297, he has the body type and skillset you want from a NT.

I was honestly shocked of how little playing time he had last year with Mitchell playing like crap. I think Jones has a very very good year.

Nah, I agree with you. I was just replying to what NC said. As far as I can remember, DJ Jones is the only nose on the roster.

I can't see the 49ers cutting Mark Nzeocha, who signed a 3yr deal, and has part of his base salary GTD.

I also believe DJ Jones makes it over Moore, who to me is a camp body right now.

No issues on offense, Matthews though needs to show something more than Bourne to make the 53.

OL wise, I like Johnson, but would like Skule on the 53.

Also think we keep 6 CBs, now with Alex Brown cut, I'd keep Harris if healthy.

Yeah. He is the only true nose but if he makes it, he might be closer to 290 in this scheme. I love Jones personally. I was going off the early OTA reports that Day was balling out and playing both inside. I don't want to cut Street but it might be Jones/Day at 1T.

I actually think Blair is in danger of being traded. Bosa, Ford, Buckner, AA, Thomas, Street, Jones, and Day should make it.
I wonder if they'll give Street snaps at nose. I mean, if they gave Sheldon Day a chance to play there, why not Street? He's the same size and a billion times stronger lol.

After I typed my dumb post I looked up his name

Well, we are thin at LB depth. Maybe he surprises in camp / preseason. I hope. Greenlaw too, I hope he does something.
