That would really suck. I would hope in such a situation they traded Mullens for some really great depth along the OL
I have no clue what we're gonna do still. Things always get hazier after the 2nd pre-season game. Still need 2 more to see. So this is what I'm going with now:

QB: (2) Garoppolo, Mullens
HB: (4) Breida, Coleman, McKinnon, Mostert
FB: (1) Juice
TE: (3) Kittle, Dwelley, Smith (Toilolo if he's healthy)
WR: (6) Pettis, Samuel, Taylor, Goodwin, Hurd, James
OL: (8) Staley, Tomlinson, Person, McGlinchey, Young, Garnett, Richburg, Johnson
DL: (10) Ford, Buckner, Bosa, Armstead, Thomas, Givens, Street, Taylor, Blair, Jones
LB: (6) Warner, Alexander, Greenlaw, Smith, Nzeocha, Mayo
DB: (10) Sherman, Witherspoon, Verrett, Williams, Reed, Moseley, Moore, Tartt, Exum, Ward
K: (1) Gould
P: (1) Wishnowsky
LS: (1) Holba

IR: S.Coleman (ankle), Colbert (hamstring), D.Moore (thumb), Celek (back, head)

Notes:
1. I like Bourne, I really do. But.. simply put, James is too valuable to let go of due to his reliability and effectiveness on kick and punt returns. I can't be the only one here terrified watching Pettis struggle to track punts in the air. I think we will trade Bourne for anything we can possibly get for him. Since he can't return kicks, his value is in the fact that he can play all WR spots, but so can Pettis, Hurd, and Deebo. Unless we find a way to keep 7, I just don't see Bourne or Matthews making it.

2. At safety, if we're only going with 4, then all four need to be able to play both safety spots. I like Marcell Harris, but he can't. Can we sneak him onto the PS if cut? Unlikely. Another potential trade candidate, in my opinion.

3. I know we guaranteed money to Garland, but he's been horrendous not only in practice, per reports, but also in games. If he can't do the job -- why keep him around? It's limited action we've seen, but it's been almost all negative. Not only has Wesley Johnson been the better player, he can play every spot on the line, including tackle. Garland can't. Garnett also had snaps at C a few times last season as well as earlier this off-season, so I just don't see Garland offering anything we don't already have with the other guys.

4. After garnering national attention, I don't see us able to hide Givens on the PS anymore. I'd keep him over Day who seems to have plateaued and might lack the high ceiling Givens has, at least based on what we've seen so far. Jones may be inactive with the knee still, but his value at NT, especially in short yardage can't be understated. He is one of the few that can eat up double-teams.

5. Players I see being stashed on IR for a potential add-back later: DE Damontre Moore (dislocated thumb is a 6-8 week injury) and S Colbert.

Having said that. I wouldn't be opposed to it depending on the trade comp for Mullens.

Beathard holds onto the ball too long which makes him a very average to below average backup. But in practice when no one can hit you, it's fine. He also has the best arm so he can throw any route to give our WRs quality reps.

I've also said many times and I know a lot of people don't agree with this, if we aren't competing for the playoffs I would like to have a higher draft pick. Beathard gives us that chance.

It's not even a debate who is better with Mullens and Beathard.

But Mullens vs Beathard + starting guard? I think there might be some debate.

I'll implode if we just cut Mullens, and don't get any good compensation back from him. That would be the worst.
The San Francisco 49ers announced on Wednesday they have signed OL Andrew Lauderdale, S Tyree Robinson and WR Chris Thompson to one-year deals. In order to make room on the roster, the team waived OL Christian DiLauro and RB Brandon Wilds, and waived/injured WR Shawn Poindexter.

Basically extra camp fodder to see if any are worth a PS spot.

Yup. Mullens is better than most of the backups out there. Have to image he's better than all of the QBs who will be kept as a 3rd option.
whens roster cuts? dates?

First round is the day after everyone finishes their 3rd preseason game. Not sure when that is exactly. Then you have to cut all the way down after the last game.
