I think the bigger concern (and true test for Shanahan) is that those kinds of road game stretches require physical and mental toughness. That's where I think Shanahan is more OC than HC. He's the smartest guy in the room but is he the one that gets the most out of these guys in terms of willpower when they're beat tired and facing a brutal team on the road?

Shanahan hasn't exactly had his best players to help him power through road stretches the last two years. Those guys make a difference.

As far as the schedule goes - opening with two road games stinks, but they are two of the more winnable road games, with (presumably) weaker opponents. I don't mind having a tougher back end of the schedule if it means they might take advantage of some potentially easier matchups to start the season. If they can start the season better they may have the ability to play above their talent level when it comes to later season games against potentially stronger opponents.

Very good point, especially when you consider how much they overachieved to close 2017 riding the Jimmy G high.

However, the inverse gets really ugly. If they don't win those upfront games, it subjects this team to a really rough second half. Puts early pressure on the team.

Was thinking 11-5 but this is good too.
Some games appear harder than they really are. And some games may seem easier but are tough.

Like week 1 vs Tamp
No excuse for not being at least 3-1 at the bye. Have to be at least that to have any shot of a playoff year, with a bye at week 4. 12ish straight weeks without the bye. Nice.

Has anyone saying the schedule isn't that bad actually seen the schedule?

3 different back-to-back road game stretches, and playing FIVE 2018 playoff teams to closet he last 7 weeks of the season (non-playoff teams including the falcons and packers who are far from easy outs)

This is the worst schedule I've seen as a 49ers fan since schedule release became a thing. Really rough.

Have you seen Tampa's schedule? After their 9/22 home game, they don't play another home game in Tampa until 11/10. This includes a couple trips to the west coast and a trip to London. It could definitely be a lot worse.

If the secondary plays the way it did last year,8ish wins. If the over/under was set at 10, I would pick the under. Still no faith in acorn head. Gonna have Bosa and Ford peeling off on every play.

Well we will have only played 3 games at the bye, so being 3-1 is going to be tough. Not that I'm making excuses..
why havent they released week 16's times?

There are 5 games in week 16, 3 of those will be flexed depending on what the best match ups are.
