Playoffs or bust. If Jimmy is for real, we have to be at least a 9 win team.

ya, i don't get the low expectations from most around here. Before last season, 90% of NT was talking playoffs. If anything, the team has already improved with the additions of Ford, Alexander, Coleman, Verrett and Matthews.

Doesn't that answer your question? Before last season, I think most 49ers fans were super excited and thought we could be a playoff team and then the season started and we flopped. I'm optimistic about next season, but it's hard to let myself be too excited after how disappointing last year was. I think if our key players remain healthy and we get some contributions from this year's draft class, we could go 10-6. Hard to feel confident in that though.
12-4
This is the sort of question that makes people tear their hair out and grind their teeth if the team doesn't live up to what their expectations are. I think the real question is how close is the team to realistically competing for a championship. If the team isn't good enough to make a legitimate run at the top prize then what difference does it make what their record is?

I think a better criteria is to try and gauge how much the team is improving. I think the 2017 team was better than the 2016 team. I think the 2018 team was better than the 2017 team and if they hadn't been decimated by injuries, especially to Jimmy G, I think they would have ended up with a better record then they did and might have even been in the hunt for a playoff spot. But they weren't good enough to do anything but get eliminated in the first round so who cares.

I think the 2019 team has a chance to be better than the 2018 team, a lot will depend on who they get at that number 2 draft spot and how quickly that player can make an impact. There are just so many unknowns going into the season though, a lot of key players and additions coming off of injury. How well those guys have recovered and how quickly they can get assimilated or re-assimilated will be the key. In the first group are guys like Alexander, Verrett, McKinnon, and Street. In the second group is Jimmy G, Colbert, Tartt, Ward and Mostert. I guess a third group would be guys who played last year but were banged up for all or most of the season or were just returning from injury. I would include Sherman, Harris, Taylor, Richburg and Goodwin in that group and I guess Tomlinson who I seem to recall was hurt near the end of the season

Then there are all of the second and third year players who will have to show up and prove they belong, guys like Pettis, Bourne, Reed, Moore, Thomas, Garnett and Witherspoon. How all of that plays out and how the addition of Welker and the new D-line coach changes the effectiveness of their respective position groups will be the key to the season. My guess is they will be better and will certainly be competitive in most every game they play. How close they are to developing that championship attitude and edge though remains to be seen.
10-6, the last 4 games are going to be major and decide the niners playoff faith..
Why is somebody trying to start PYMWYMI on the WZ before the draft?

I have no idea what that long acronym stands for, but I started it because the schedule was released and it is an interesting discussion. The rookie class shouldnt significantly alter a W-L projection.
9-7, slim chance for Wildcard spot.

Kyle will have a quality X and Z WR.
Kyle will still have Kittle.
Kyle will have Jet and Coleman.
Kyle will still have Juice.
Weapons everywhere for an excellent playcaller that has a smart QB with arm talent.

Ford, Buckner, and Bosa will be a nightmare for opposing offensive lines.

I expect a huge improvement this year. Anything less than 10 wins would be a disappointment imo, barring injuries of course.

Ignore the part about Jet though.

I certainly hope your call is the right call. It is looking good. Seatoots are more broken then us. Both their starting RBs are out for the year and half of their defense is on IR. We will be stronger then we were last time and they will be weaker.

Same. I predicted injuries would remain devastating and there were too many issues with the OL and depth esp. the pass protection still and the secondary had too many question marks ATM. I was right on those aspects but no way did I see every single "next man up" actually step up the way they did. And Kyle clearly spent all off season scheming up a ridiculous run-centric game that was averaging 200 yards a game for a while and asking Garoppolo to have the quickest TTT in the league. And the heart/resolve of this team has been unmatched. A truly special year no matter what happens next. I couldn't be more happy to be wrong about the record.
