Lombardi said he went thru the agreement and there are asterisks, A rookie/first contract player on fifth year option $40k fine a day and the team can forgive the fine. It only applies to players on 5th year options. Obviously, the 9ers will forgive and I guess no hurry for Nick while we wait for contract to be finalized.
Kind of an odd CBA out after the hype of no more forgiveness by teams for fines.
The point of that clause is that once you get paid, you can't hold out a year or two later to get paid more cause someone else makes more than you.
a great example is the mahommes contract. He's severely underpaid and some are making $20M+ a year more than him right now. He can't throw a fit and holdout like players used to do when they wanted a raise. Fifth year option one makes more sense cause you had no control over your first contract and are trying to work out an extension - sometimes they can lag. Bosa is a great example of no bad blood but just hasn't materialize yet. He can preserve himself with no penalty and/or rush while it gets figured out
