He's under contract via the 5th-year option, no? Why would he not be on the 53 man roster?

Actually the team can placed him in the Reserve/Did Not Report list so he wouldn't be on the 53.
However if a deal was already done, I think the team would rather have him sign ASAP and get in shape for week 1.

I just wanted to bold this for those freaking out.
how does this work, is he under contract right now? if not I can see how he wouldn't count toward the 53

He was placed on reserve/Did Not Report list, so he doesn't count against the 90-man roster right now.

I think libertyforever is correct when they stated they can put them on the Reserve/Did Not Report list so he doesn't count against the 53 man roster

Regardless, I still don't agree with that logic. They can still report the deal before it's officially signed. They do it all the time. Then Bosa can just officially sign Wednesday.

ah ok thanks for explaining.... i did look on your webpage and didn't see it there, your website is awesome btw
no heart attacks, Bosa signs Wednesday all we all party
You already know Shanny is gonna have him on a snap count once he gets back after missing the whole offseason. We might not get full strength Bosa till like week 3

I would like to have Bosa on the field week 1. We need all the wins we can especially early in the year so we can try to get the 1 seed this year so we can have home field in playoffs

I'm not 100% here but I imagine if the deal is done the 49ers have to take him off the non report list aka putting him back on the roster.
We need to be very tricky at this roster cut down. We have some talent log jams at some positions and injuries at others so we have to get guys onto the 53 and then short term IR them so they're not lost for the season. An extra spot from Bosa would be important if we can keep Danny Gray or Jalen Graham on the roster.

Now that they have the Trey issue out of the way they can concentrate on Bosa. They'll get something worked out because they can't afford to lose him on the field or in the public opinion.

Joey bosa signed a 5 year extension with the chargers, so I'm optimistic that Nick will do something similar - which means we will have him locked up for the next 6 years, hopefully!
i think the holdup is that bosa may want certain escalators in his contract for the final 2-3 years or so that keeps him amongst the highest paid defenders in the league.
i think the league is going to start shifting to percentages of the cap for the best players salaries, especially at QB. I believe burrow is trying to do that. Will be interesting if nick is trying the same. I hope he gets signed up today.
I keep hoping I will see "Nick Bosa signs extension" everytime I open this thread
