Uncapped, no. But it does suck that when you have a well run team that you eventually lose great players because of budget.
I've always thought the league got it wrong here. Teams should have more flexibility in retaining players they drafted, since the cap was only put in
place to keep teams from buying a championship. Comp picks are a nice effort, but I think that players drafted by a team should have an offset towards how they count against the cap. IMO, a "franchise tag" should be a player that was drafted, whom a team could designate their franchise player and not count against the cap.
Or that retaining your own guys counts only 75% of their contract towards the cap or something like that.
