I feel like we wouldn't want an uncapped league as 49ers fans.

Uncapped, no. But it does suck that when you have a well run team that you eventually lose great players because of budget.

I've always thought the league got it wrong here. Teams should have more flexibility in retaining players they drafted, since the cap was only put in
place to keep teams from buying a championship. Comp picks are a nice effort, but I think that players drafted by a team should have an offset towards how they count against the cap. IMO, a "franchise tag" should be a player that was drafted, whom a team could designate their franchise player and not count against the cap.

Or that retaining your own guys counts only 75% of their contract towards the cap or something like that.

Idk exactly how the NBA does but I know if a player has been there a while, they get birdie rights etc. they're messing it up now with the new CBA.

i agree, teams that continually draft well eventually get punished because they can't retain everyone.. it's stupid. I'm not just saying that cause it's the 49ers. I just don't think any team should be punished for doing their job really well. Especially in football when that's really hard to do in general.
Not only does Bosa want to be the highest paid non QB but he wants to make sure nobody can pass him in the coming years. Parson's for example will up for contract negotiating after this upcoming season.
The team will sign Bosa and i think it will be a big one. They can't afford another goof after the Trey Lance boner, and losing Bosa would damage the brand. I think they eventually give him what he wants

Not to mention the team is not winning sh*t without Bosa in a SB or bust season. He is holding all the cards.

I've seen a couple people say this. Was this reported by someone, or just pure speculation?

I can see the Cowboys trying to tag Parsons as a linebacker since he plays a lot of snaps off ball. Leading to a very nasty negotiation

You don't know Paraag do you? Bosa is the best defensive player in the league or at least top three and he should be paid as such. That said there's only one Patrick Mahomes in this league and he's the ONLY guy that is worth these mega contracts being bandied about and I get why Paraag doesn't want to tank our salary cap resigning him

Bosa can't be the end all be all because he's been here four years now and we've not won the whole thing so we have to save enough to keep other players. Aiyuk for example has to come after him so we need to make Bosa the top paid defensive player but we can't give him top five QB money either. That just ain't sustainable

Still ain't Mahomes and I still remember what we did to Buckner who happened to be the leader of the defense at the time of his impending contract issue. I want Bosa paid but I understand Paraag has a job to do as well

Something could be done more than rewarding that team with another draft pick. It's the league's way of saying you draft so good you should be able to do it again. Imagine being able to keep Purdy's next contact from counting against the cap. Or Bosa's this year.
Roster cut down is tomorrow at 1:00, correct? Do they have to wait until Wednesday to take advantage of that roster spot or could they do what they need to do and then sign Bosa at 1:05?

Yeah but you can look at it another way and say that mid tier QB's are getting 35+ Million a season and are any of them a better player than Bosa? All because they play QB. Does Kirk Cousins deserve to get paid more than Bosa? Would anybody in the league trade Bosa for Cousins straight up? Bosa shoulsn't get anywhere near the elite QB's but he should get paid equal to those mid tier or even borderline top 10 QB's.

no, do you know Paraag? Can you imagine SF owning one of the worst trades in nfl history and not being able to sign their best player, pre-season? won't happen. Why are you bringing up Mahomes? that's not even in the same league with what we're discussing here, a better comp would be Donald. who said anything about QB money?

Problem with that is it's an impossible goal. No matter how much we pay him, the next superstar will demand more than Bosa, so it's a futile effort. I do think he wants a historic contract, which is why I still think he's gunning for the 1st ever fully guaranteed deal for a defensive player. He and his agent know that at some point it will happen, so they may think now is as good a time as any.

I loved Buckner but he is nowhere on Bosa's level. He is not the pass rusher Bosa is and he is not the run stopper Bosa is. Not to mention that DE is more valuable than DT. Unless you are prime Aaron Donald.
