Yeah, we could technically move forward with him on the fifth year option and then tag him, but that would be catastrophic to our salary cap for the next few years. We would have to do some massive restructuring and/or cut loose some quality guys.
the fifth year option is 100% guaranteed, so the entire amount hits the cap. Same with the franchise tag. So we are already over the cap next year and then adding like $30M would be a bad situation.
we really need to extend him so we can get the cap flexibility to help maintain the roster.

Like I mentioned earlier, that redditor is not properly evaluating the leverage each party has in this situation. Bosa has short term leverage only really.
The guy is guessing, badly.

His option is $17.9M (which is on the books already) and the tag is $19.8M. I wouldn't call that catastrophic

Lmao I told ya'll a couple years ago the arrogance of this regime would be its downfall. Trading our future for an unproven, trash project in Lance... letting an all pro Buckner go because we thought a project, unproductive rookie could replicate his performance and now trading the most dominant defensive player in the League.
You can look at the smarmy smiles on ShanaLynch and see they were destined to be crushed under the weight of their own egos.
I'm hoping they learned from those two colossal mistakes. Getting rid of Lance gives me hope. but we'll see…
I posted in the O line thread that Shanahan will win his Superbowl with his next team like Andy Reid did. EGO is why coaches after they blow it the first time get their egos in check, move to their next team to and win it all. Kyle is a great play caller in the first 50 mins but after not so much. If they don't sign Bosa their tenure is very short.
To be fair, all coaches and players have big egos. That is in part why they've successfully made it to this point. If Kyles ego was that big, to the detriment of the team, he'd still be trying to make Lance happen. He didn't. He placed him at QB3 and then traded him even if would make him look bad. He don't GAF how he looks, he's trying to win games.
Don't confuse confidence with Ego. Walsh was confident but not a Ego that gets in the way of Football players and winning. If he wants somebody he gets him only to put him in his dog house for being injured. If we don't sign Bosa, I know he did not fight hard enough to keep him and number 6 is gone. Let's see what happens but this is not looking good.

The Niners have 5th year uption and franchise tag. Whoever that is is yanking your chain.
They didn't break the McCaffrey trade either, it'd been posted about for weeks. Hell I had it two weeks out.
