It'll be a 5yr extension if he wants to beat the kind of money Donald, Watt, and Joey Bosa got, he can't do a 3yr deal, the 49ers can't afford that cap wise, 5yr yes. It's clear Bosa wants tops in APY, GTD, Fully GTD, and likely a huge signing bonus.

I think it will be 5 years as well. It's hard to do anything shorter when you have a team like ours and paying so many guys.

This contract has most likely been dragged out and fought for everything because if he signs a five year, he will be 31-32or so when the contract ends - since it's essentially a 6 year deal with the fifth year option. I expect bosa will still be good but no guarantee that he will be at that prime age to sign another historic deal.

I know that players all want to be the highest paid at their position but even a great pass rusher like Bosa isn't worth $30 million per year. A DE isn't like a QB who is part of every offensive play. A DE can only have so much impact since he's just one of 11 guys and plays often are run in another part of the field.

I looked at Nicks impressive stats on Pro Football Reference and they still have minimal impact compared to a QB. He's averaged about .9 sacks per game. Three combined tackles per gameI 1.1 tackles for loss. 2.1 QB hits. One QB hurry per game.

Most teams run about 55-60 plays per game. If you combine all of his stats he's having an impact on about 9-10 plays per game. That's great but it's not on the same level as a QB. I think the whole NFL pay structure is out of whack and its' going to destroy some teams down the road. You can only keep pushing salaries back in order to fit under the cap for so long. If Bosa get's $30 million then somewhere down the road we're going to let a player walk.

This is a very misleading measure of how much impact an edge rusher has.

Offenses alter their game plans and offensive line assignments for them, and are more prone to errors and mistakes when there's an edge rusher blowing up the backfield without showing up on the stat sheet.

By this same logic, a First-Team All-Pro left tackle and a crappy left tackle have virtually the same impact because they both started the same number of games.

Nice, great points. I feel like if you have a Bosa for that long, and a FQ, if Purdy is that, it might all the core we need to compete for awhile with a bloated cap

Very well said...Bosa is arguably the best player on this team and he does matter on every defensive play. When they double team or scheme around him someone else makes a play. Last year the defense carried the team alot of games and he was a big part of that. When a player like Bosa that's so dominate he makes the whole team better.

I would argue that perhaps Trent is the best player on the team. Who knows when he hangs it up but I am sure they are thinking of maybe a need to BUY a replacement if the draft does not fulfill the need. Brock must stay protected. I am sure on their we need to allocate money list is a potential need to replace Trent in FA when that time comes and it won't be cheap.

There are a lot of moving parts to Bosa contract to be considered.

If you read my opening statement you would know that I wasn't talking just abut Bosa. Theres no question he has an impact on the game nd he's the top 2 or 3 defensive player in the league. That being said, no defensive player can affect the game the way a QB does because the QB handles every snap. He can win games by making great passes or breaking runs. He can also lose games if he throws a crucial INT. That's why I say that no D player should make as much as the QB. I know that the top QBs are now making $50 million per year but many still aren't. If they keep this escalation up, there will be no room for the situational players and depth. Yoy're going to have the QB, DE and tackle taking up about 40% of the cap assuming the cap goes up to $300 million. That's not sustainable in the long run.
Injury rates alone would make me consider trading him for a kings ransom. Nick is f**king awesome, and he deserves all the money he can get…. But 30mil is a lot of money for a position fighting it out in the trenches.

I said the same thing about deebo last year…. Love the guy, just didn't want to reset the market for such a bruiser (we didn't)

You're forgetting that any deal the 49ers sign with a player will have low cap numbers in the first 2 yrs. It's sustainable, but we won't be able to keep everyone, some will leave, most I believe can be retained.

There is a such thing as Fred Warner and even though Bosa is HOF caliber, let us not act as if he is LT already
Health permitting, Bosa will go into the Hall as a 49er

Obviously. In the NFL every team you play for is listed. This isn't baseball.
This is just annoying at this point. Sign the damn contract and let's get cookin. You guys have been negotiating for a year. Jesus Christ

In order to keep all of them, we will need guys to start taking haircuts and team friendly deals for each other, so everyone can make good money and play together. Time will tell what happens, a lot of it will depend on what Brock does when his contract is up (assuming he continues being the guy).
