I live here and my paycheck agrees.

FACT

Cali taxes are oppressive and some of the highest in the nation: state income tax, state sales tax

Worth it

Not sure I agree, would be very hard for me to decide to live on the west coast again.

Let's say bosa gets a $40M signing bonus, he will take home about 40% of it. He will be at the top of the bracket in Cali, so that's about half. Then he will have to pay 10% to his agent, 5-10% for a money manager.

so it's possible that out of $40M he would take home like $15M. Still a lot of money but not the same as taking home $25M or so like he would in a state like Texas and Florida.

Someone like bosa should negotiate where the team has to pay his agent or at least half of what his agent should get. As a way to offset the ridiculous tax burden anyone on the team will get.

And there were people who acted like Kinlaw was in the wrong for that whole thing. I think he should have gone harder.

It has a pretty big impact on take home. I don't see how its a non issue. Agents should be advising. Props for the adjustment idea by state.

It doesn't have a "pretty big impact". First off, the players pay taxes based on where they play every week. Secondly, no matter where they play, they pay federal taxes, which is much higher than even the highest state tax.

So there is a difference if you signed with the dolphins vs the Vikings, but it's not some gigantic difference.

Great point. It's not 17 games in California, then it probably would have a significant impact

We only get back 80% of what we pay in Fed taxes and cover the rest wth state and local taxes. We do spend too much as well. We subsides the poor states and that's what kills us the most. No more politics because I hate where that can go lol. 🙃 it is worth it since I don't have a mansion like NFL players have in a gated community. To survive as a common farmer it's better in California.

Ill look it up. But i think your wrong. Some states have pretty high income tax.

Fact is California sports teams have to pay more to offset high taxes. I believe only NY has comparable tax rate. Over the life of a contract that's serious money. You can bet that's a sticking point in contact negotiations.

Yeah CA rocks. Was out this morning. Gas $5.40 a gallon with the latest gas tax that hit a couple of months ago and it rises each year for a number of years.

What is the practice and travel schedule for week 1? If he signs Tuesday or Wednesday he'd get at least 1 practice in, right?

You do understand that there are 2 sets of taxes, correct? The CA yearly income tax, at its highest level, is about 13%. So when people say "half my taxes!!!" they're talking about an all-in, state/federal/social security/etc.

The argument here is playing in Florida (0%) vs playing in CA (13% ) of those particular game checks. It's difference obviously, but not major

I'm not entirely sure, but I'm convinced Bosa will have a big Impact come week 1, with or without practice.

Assuming a deal gets done that Is.
