Last player to win SB mvp at DE was 1985 - Richard Dent.

Von Miller?

Linebacker.

Edge rusher… arguing semantics of a 3-4 OLB vs 4-3 DE in many cases is a distinction without a difference .

Fair....not helping your arguement though....thats 2 in the last 38 years....
This dude is really not gonna sign before week 1 huh

If Bosa's hold was called, alternate universe style, he would probably have won it.
Lol edge rusher is the second-most important position in the entire sport, and most important position on one side of the ball. It's not even debatable. I can't believe people are trying to argue Bosa isn't important.

There's a reason this team went from #1 pick contention to near-champions in 2019, and Bosa was a massive reason why.

And yes, edge rusher can be listed as DE or OLB. It's about whether you're playing a 3-4 or 4-3. Von Miller and Khalil Mack are listed as OLB's but they have the same job as Bosa.

I agree that market dictates (our fault as fans ) but he should be honourable enough play out his contract at 17 million. The fans that support him make a very small fraction.

Bigger picture is we complain about the 1% and the rich getting richer while defending entitled pro athletes makes millions that play a game.

Do actually think fans will stop forking over $300, $400, $500 per ticket? Stop buying merch? Stop watching?

Whether you like it or not, his circumstances are fundamentally different than any of ours. We also have the right to hire an agent or attorney during contract negotiations, but there's much less any of us can only do that any number of other applicants can. And if the niners don't pay him, there are plenty of other teams that could jump at that opportunity. I've never felt that Bosa was a Ra-ra Go Team! type of guy. He builds himself up in his lab. He and his brother are serious progressional DEs, more like mercenaries than a leader like Fred. But if we want to win a SB, you better believe we'll need him.

He is not absolute to winning a SB.....Purdy is.

Both. And Williams. And CMC. And enough weapons between Kittle, Aiyuk, and Deebo. And enough defensive playmakers. We need a critical mass of star players because our depth is not there anymore. But you better believe that both Purdy and Bosa and Williams are vital.
Man our FO has had a bad off season. Defense will struggle

You're right that fans are willing to fork over big bucks for tickets but there will come a time when only the elite will be able to attend. $500 per game is already out of reach for the majority of fans. I know when they moved to Santa Clara many of the long time fans said no to the high priced seat licenses and the high ticket prices. So what happened was a lot of tickets were bought up by agencies and corporations. They still sold a lot of seats but it's not always the same fans there every week.

On top of that the NFL is selling the rights to show their games to the highest bidders. Piece by piece the ability to watch for free is disappearing. Then they have the crazy blackout policies which eliminates even more viewers. We have a thread on this forum that appears with some regularity on how to watch the games. Why? It should be easy to just turn on your set and sit back and enjoy. Instead the NFL, which is by far the most popular sport seems more interested in making money than making it easy for fans to watch.

I agree there should be a point of diminishing returns, but we haven't seen it yet. Demand remains very high.

Eventually they will. Whether its because it becomes to expensive to go to games, buy a jersey or even to watch on TV. If I have to pay to watch a game on TV, I am done.

Kids are not watching sports like they use to....other distractions now. Not to mention resentment due to the rich salaries as common fans slowly get pushed out of the game.

I'm not disagreeing with you on principle, but I haven't seen any evidence we've even started to curb the bloat.

Kids go with whoever their parents root for or whichever team or player is the hot topic. The days when kids nearly always rooted for their home team are gone. One reason is ticket prices. It's not possible to take 2 or 3 kids to a game very often. Not when tickets cost $50-$100 (for baseball) or more and food prices are through the roof. You don't see alot of kids in the stands at NFL games anymore. That's how you build a fan base. Not by putting games on Amazon or some other streaming service.

I no longer attend games since I moved to Oregon and I'm getting too old for the hassle so I watch on TV. Now they're making that harder to do. If I hadn't been able to attend college and NFL games when I was younger I wouldn't be nearly the fan I am now. Being there and tailgating before the games is a big part of the experience. Watching a game in person with the crowd around you is what really builds fan loyalty. You can see better on TV but it's not like being at the game.

You're right and that's part of the problem. Fans are the enablers. The NFL is more profitable than any of the other sports. The franchise are among the most valuable. The players are getting paid more and more. The ratings for games remains high. When was the last time the league gave something back to the fans? Instead they keep raising prices and making it harder to watch the games. It's like they're playing a game of chicken with the fans.

It's called business. If people will pay more for your product, raise the price. The NFL is no different than any other business in that way.
