What is there to understand ?

Bosa is by far the best 49ers player, considering his age and position
Mahomes is by far the best chiefs player, considering his age and position

The question is if we were the Niners' would you give $40m to Bosa. I said yes, because I don't mind overpaying $10m (and it's less than that) to the best player the Niners have. Am I thrilled with overpaying ? No, value is king. But elite all-pro difference makers are kings too. I'm OK with that $10m not going to a good player or two.

Not the same player and more importantly not the same position.

Llike I said, if he sits out the max, put him in the press box for the rest and then franchise him.

Then not only will you have an uphappy player and somebody who won't be here longterm, The team loses trade value. But leave it to the Niners to have a top 10 player in this league who is entering his prime and somehow manage to kill his trade value.
So are they literally saying he should get more than that watt but less than Donald? That's the 4 million difference rumored right? So I would guess Niners are at 29-30 and he wants 32-33. That's not a massive difference imo so it feels weird to have it take this long.

I really don't see the issue giving Bosa 32'or 33. In a year or two it'll be a bargain.

"Not the same player" is a truism, so it makes no sense to present it as qualm when comparing players. Obviously one person can never be another person.

As far as position, sure you can argue Mahomes is more impactful, but again, Bosa is by far the best player the Niners have.

Both teams would be screwed and not winning the superbowl without their best player.

The question there was what would the Niners do if Bosa went down ? The answer is the same if Bosa refuses to play this year. They would not be a SB team.

You can't kill his trade value lol

Then his agent should bring attention to that potential. Losing trade value also means monetary value for a contract.

They would definitely still have a shot to win the Super Bowl without Bosa

I get where you are coming from, however I disagree.

I think the 49ers would have a far harder time winning the Super Bowl without Bosa, of course, but in the playoffs the officiating neuters Bosa a bit. I think the 49ers winning a Super Bowl hinges far more on their offense than their defense. And I fully believe the 49ers could win a Super Bowl without Bosa. I know you disagree, and I hope we don't have to find out.

No they don't. Purdy would have to turn into Mahomes.
We ain't winning no gah damn SB without Bosa especially with this current group of ends. The depth and DE was already questionable with Bosa

Purdy had this team at number 1 in scoring offense, so yeah Purdy could do it.

Having Bosa would make it a little easier

I think even making the playoffs would be a challenge.
Signing Hargrave was a mistake
