I ignore that. He could have had that chance this year, but re-negotiated with the Chargers probably for more than the 49ers would have been willing to pay. The Bosas are about money and that's it. They say things the fans want to hear to look good, but at the end of the day Joey will play for whoever offers him the most - and that will never be the 49ers. Like when Nick said he didn't need to be the highest paid non-Qb and fans werre like oh cool!...and then he held out until he was the highest paid non-Qb.

Agree with this. The idea of them playing together is silly. Joey isn't taking millions less to play with his brother. As for Nick's holdout, I don't mind because it was his 2nd contract. But to thar extent, Nick isn't leaving millions on the table to play with Joey.

I think it was on Joeys mind for two reasons, one is it would be natural to want to play with his bro. and the more mature reason is if he couldn't stay healthy he would have to play for a cheap contract and prove he can stay healthy etc.

If he's hurt again this year he could be cut so the opportunity would be there. If he gets similar veteran injury guarded offers why wouldnt he go play with his bro?

Thats a contingency. In the case of a team offering him real.money, which is what happened, he isn't coming here. In order for the brothers to play together, someone has to take less, which neither will do unless some circumstance like you described.
Yes, but most players are

"Show Me the Money!"

So the Bosas are not Robinson Crusoe.

Interesting take. I don't think I noticed his frustration with Wilks, but wonder if he and other players were asked their opinion of him before they canned him.

"The zone read got us a couple of times," Bosa said. "We could have been more prepared there. We have to know in crucial situations who is going to have the ball, and obviously it's him [Mahomes]".
There were a few other quotes from Nick during the season that could be interpreted as frustration with the defensive scheme. Also, his production was down, which could be from scheme change, or his holdout, we'll never know. He sounds pumped to play for Sorenson though.

Right. There were so many quotes where you could tell Nick wasn't feeling the scheme.

I think the frustration was there for a lot of the guys in the front 7. The DBs rightfully loved the guy but I know the DL and even the linebackers weren't feeling it. There was a lot of talk during the season that guys weren't buying in. I think there was a picture floating around that made it look like guys were looking off into space while Wilks was giving them a speech at one point.

Clearly the lack of effort on defense in the playoffs was somewhat a reflection of that as well. Really hope we get back on track and find ourselves with a defense that has no problem closing out games and holding leads again.

I like the fact that Bosa is talking about this, there were all kinds of excuses out there saying he played it correctly.

The D/C on a team being run by a O/C (at heart) has to be dialed in.

Crazy thing is Wilks got us to the super bowl through all of that confusion.
Great 49ers gift ideas

If my math is correct, Bosa has about 163 sacks this training camp.
I'm glad he made the 53.

It felt like the 49ers offense carried us for the bulk of the year, and the defense did just enough.
Lions NFCCG was a lot hairier on defense than I think it would've been if we had Saleh or Ryans as DC. I'm sure the stats support that Wilks was solid as a DC, but I never felt comfortable with him as defensive coordinator. With Ryans, especially, I always felt he would mix things up and call a great play call against the opposing offense.

As for Bosa... He's a top defensive end. But I honestly feel like, especially when we get to playoffs, teams are going to throw the kitchen sink at him to avoid having him beat them. Sure, we expect an elite player to make plays in spite of that... but I'm more interested to see what kind of pressure that the rest of the front 7 provides. If protection schemes are trying to thwart Bosa, that should leave one-on-one pass-rushing opportunities to other guys... or maybe one or two less skill position players not running routes, but staying into protect.
Nick gets the captain patch back this year. He didn't have it last year largely due to the contract holdout.

I think it answered an age old question, can you throw enough talent at scheme and have it work....

It is rare to take a franchise great defense, return most of the talent with some key upgrades....change DCs.....and get an opportunity to compare results.

It is super easy to look at some coaches and just say....hey....whatever look at the talent. Barry Switzer comes to mind...... Last year was a rare reminder that coaching still matters a ton.
