The tweet:

Badass Bosa. That is all

Will he be as badass as Justin Smith? I hope so.

They will have very different assignments as Cowboy was a 3-4 DE and Bosa is a 4-3. Buckner is more of the Cowboy type in our D. Bosa is more of an Aldon, hopefully he's as productive as Aldon, pre insanity.

I live in MA and my family are all Pats fans...yes.

What is your point? We have the bodies to stop the run of a team wants to go that route. The issue for us has been pass rush and being able to stop teams with a lead.

We're a far cry away from the team in 2016 which couldn't stop anyone if they wanted to run it.

Also forget the defense for a second. Assuming the offense takes a big step forward with Jimmy coming back and some talent additions at WR we should be able to put pressure on opposing teams.

Hard to run the ball all game long if the other team is able to put up points.

As good as the Pats were at running the ball it was still Tom Brady who made key plays in the passing game and part of the reason they were so successful is because they were able to run/pass out of their big body sets with Gronk being a threat in the passing game and a great run blocker.

Teams tend to try to run the ball more in the playoffs these years but few teams who are ball control offenses make the playoffs anymore.

You need balance and the rules make passing easier these days. It's a matter of how well you can defend the run outside of base which gives some defenses a leg up on the competition just like on offense balance makes things that much easier.

Well, they beat the Chargers because the chargers were soft upfront. Base is still base, the drive starts there and if you're soft in it , it affects the subsequent play calls. This was last though, we will be better, but last year we were not good at it unless you're using standard metrics which are out of date.

Let's just look at last years d-line as a unit, average. Now consider the line backing core, below average in my opinion. So add both of those up which make your front 7and tell me how you're figuring we could have been good at stopping run.

Historically as in prior to last few seasons?

The numbers are what they are for the reason, the league has changed to a lot more passing. And you yourself brought up the chess match involved.

Perfect world our nickle D can stop the run and we just worry about keeping guys up front fresh.

If that doesn't work...only guy that concerns me is Ford. I'm confident whether it's Armstead or Thomas playing as the 4th guy inside along with Buckner and Bosa and Ford on the outside he can do a good job vs the run. Our corners outside of Spoon are pretty good vs the run.

Warner and Alexander are certainly not Willis/Bowman but they're pretty good speed guys who can clean things up and hit their gaps to stop the run.

But end of the day we certainly have the depth on the DL to bring 4 guys in who can stop the run with only 2 linebackers behind them if we felt the team we're facing is very run heavy.

Biggest question on this roster is health. Everyone stays healthy I have no question that we can stop the run. You don't need 3 linebackers to do that. If the guys up front make plays it won't be an issue. I don't see too many teams who want to keep pounding the ball against us and putting themselves into 3rd and long against this DL.

This numbers I posted basically backed up how the league is rolling now...pass 1st or at the very least line up in pass personnel.

https://www.sharpfootballstats.com/personnel-grouping-frequency.html

When teams ran the ball last yr they lined up in 11 personnel 54% of the time by far the most.

And look how teams lined up last yr on offense.

Gives you a breakdown of personnel when running/passing. You can see 11 personnel used the most.

You have to lineup based on what the offense is showing and if a team is lining up with 3 WRs all day then you have to have that extra DB on the field and the SAM goes off.

It's a reason as to why kyle rocks the 21 personnel so much because it's hard to figure out what he's gonna to and forces teams to rock a certain personnel.
