There's never been a rule in the NFL where if you don't practice, you don't play. Your pants are on fire.
Don't question his knowledge on NFL rules saying if you don't practice you don't play.
It's called "unwritten rules" of the sport. If you've been a tv observer all your life, though, it's quite easy to have never heard of this, I guess.
Stuff coaches generally leave out there for players that might wanna tend to be coddled and skip practice.
"You dont practice, You dont play."
Ah yes, the trusted "I played football when I was a child, so I know more about it than you do" approach.
That's not the way it works when money and heavy investments are involved. Those "unwritten rules" apply in your high school or Pop Warner leagues, not in the pros. If you think the same rules you had when you played football at 12 years old apply to these professional athletes, then I don't know what to tell you.
The coaching staff knows Nick Bosa is better than anyone else on the team at his position. They knew this before they even drafted him, which is WHY they drafted him. If he never practiced at all, he would still play if he's healthy. If he gets yanked because he sucks, that's a completely different story. The only way this guy wouldn't play is if he didn't understand what's being asked of him - like if it he didn't know his assignments - but not being able to practice due to injury is NOT going to remove him from the starting lineup, no matter what your junior varsity high school coach told you.
