There's never been a rule in the NFL where if you don't practice, you don't play. Your pants are on fire.

Don't question his knowledge on NFL rules saying if you don't practice you don't play.

It's called "unwritten rules" of the sport. If you've been a tv observer all your life, though, it's quite easy to have never heard of this, I guess.

Stuff coaches generally leave out there for players that might wanna tend to be coddled and skip practice.

It's not a concrete rule. If Tom Brady doesn't practice cuz he's nursing an injury he's still going to play.

Veteran players may not need practice to play. They're not sitting out because they're lazy.

Missing practice isn't ideal especially for younger players who need the reps and can't mentally process the game plan.
Of course it's not a concrete rule. Essentially, it's "football lingo."

I'm not at all going to protest using football lingo on a football board, as it should kinda be expected.

You just misunderstood the post. No worries.

Ah Cranialrectosis!!

Got it. I guess that's what Grant Cohn needs.
just play him and Dee Ford on third down at Tampa. Ease him back in. I'm okay with Armstead and Solly at defensive end on 1st and 2nd down. Can't risk more injuries

I agree, obvious passing downs:

Ford - Buckner - Day/Thomas/Armstead - Bosa

on base defense or 3rd and manageable:

Armstead - Buckner - Day/Jones/Taylor - Thomas
Lynch says 50/50 for week 1. I hope they leave him out til week 5 , after the bye week. If they go 0-2 against TB & Cinn, it's not Bosa's fault, they have bigger issues. To me, it's worth a possible loss to Pitt , going 1-2, to give him a couple more weeks. It's a long season.

So the same thing people didn't want us do for Josh Allen.

I think people are talking about that while they're not 100% but I think it's an overreaction.

Bosa is definitely an every down DE and I think he'll be there sooner rather than later but at first playing him on obvious pass downs only would certainly help keep him out of major pile ups and help the ankle.

Honestly to me it's Ford that I'm more concerned with playing on run downs at DE but given his contract we can't make him a 3rd down specialist. Just have to hope he rises to the challenge.

Is Blair definitely out for game 1? If not, I think he could very well play DE on likely passing downs over AA or Thomas if Bosa is a no-go.

If he's not ready by opening day, I think it'd be prudent to wait and hold him back until week 5, after the bye.

Ah yes, the trusted "I played football when I was a child, so I know more about it than you do" approach.

That's not the way it works when money and heavy investments are involved. Those "unwritten rules" apply in your high school or Pop Warner leagues, not in the pros. If you think the same rules you had when you played football at 12 years old apply to these professional athletes, then I don't know what to tell you.

The coaching staff knows Nick Bosa is better than anyone else on the team at his position. They knew this before they even drafted him, which is WHY they drafted him. If he never practiced at all, he would still play if he's healthy. If he gets yanked because he sucks, that's a completely different story. The only way this guy wouldn't play is if he didn't understand what's being asked of him - like if it he didn't know his assignments - but not being able to practice due to injury is NOT going to remove him from the starting lineup, no matter what your junior varsity high school coach told you.
