Chao said Andrew Luck will be ready for week 1. Andrew Luck is going to miss the whole season.

Clearly he doesn't know what he's talking about.

here's a doctor..

spoke with Dr. Ken Jung, a consultant to the Rams who is a foot and ankle surgeon at the Cedars-Sinai Kerlan-Jobe Institute in Los Angeles, today a day after the 49ers discussed Bosa's ankle injury.

General manager John Lynch said Bosa didn't have a "full-blown" high ankle sprain, but his injury had "components" of such an injury. Kyle Shanahan said the rookie edge rusher had a "minor high ankle sprain, but there's no such thing as a minor high ankle sprain because we know those are a much bigger deal than low ones."

Confused? Fortunately, this made sense to Jung, who said low and high ankle sprains, the latter of which are more severe, aren't mutually exclusive.

"You can have components of one and the other," Jung said.

Jung, obviously, doesn't have access to Bosa's medical file, but he had an educated opinion about what could have happened to his ankle based on what the 49ers have said.

High ankle sprains involve damage to a complex of ligaments located above the ankle joint known as the syndesmosis. It stabilizes the tibia and fibula, the two bones of the lower leg.

"They could be speaking to that - maybe some of the ligaments of that syndesmosis are injured, but not all of them to the point that his ankle's unstable and it warrants surgery," Jung said.

So a high ankle sprain it is. Thank you for this.

and every "high ankle sprain" isn't considered equal. Like I said you got guys who don't miss any time that get the same "diagnosis"

There are grades to high/low ankles sprains, the fact that he was out of a boot in less than a week is indication that it wasn't a high grade "high ankle sprain".
So, it's a low grade high ankle sprain + high grade low ankle sprain?

Yup a guy who doesn't have access to his MRI and didn't even see it actually happen can give proper timelines on a recovery....

Haha "a guy" lol

He's a doctor, elite reputation, excellent track record of accuracy and was the Chargers lead doc for years. He has zero agenda or narrative to push. Just facts.

Bosa may play week one, but he will not be 100% with that verified high ankle.

I know exactly who he is...I follow him on twitter and have listened to him on podcasts.

HE DOES NOT have access to his file/MRI something he likes to put out there all the time when discussing injuries. Again did he have Garrett missing a month, Johnson not missing any game days, or Jamaal Charles missing only a week (all with "high ankle sprains")

He can make an educated guess, which is fine. He didn't see the injury nor does he have all the info needed to make anything other than that though. That's my pt.

...and you are right, because HIPA law forbids anybody including spouses from getting medical information without that injured person's written permission. So there is no way another doctor can do a good diagnosis without the info from the medical tests like MRI and such.

It's a low grade high ankle sprain.

Call it whatever the hell we want, It's yet another injury that caused him to miss most of training camp and ALL of preseason with potential of missing some regular season
