lol yep. You forgot to include "...an injured Bosa..."

lol seriously. He was balling.

When the "just wait on it" crowd is confused as to what fans expect from a top 5 pick, this is it. Not perfection, but flashing some talent and making some type of positive impact on the game.

When you keep hearing things like "raw" or "out of position" or "just a rookie" or "developing" year after year for a top pick, that is a bad sign.

I'd rather sit him for the Bengals than the Steelers. Only way we're winning vs the Steelers is if we get to Ben. And their OL is MUCH better than what Cinci has.

That wouldn't make sense, unless he re-injured it. Maximizing time off of the injury is the most important thing to do. The early bye week affords that.

The back end of our schedule is brutal. I'd hate to let some winnable games get away from us holding him back assuming he thinks he can play.

This game is brutal while I'd love to see all our guys 100% healthy it's not realistic. What happens if we have him miss these next two games so he's "100%" for the Browns and he just re-aggravates it early in that game?

It sucks but if he's healthy enough to play then you play him and hope for the best.

I'll be the first to say I wanted to show patience with him, but in year 3 he needs to show more. No extension... therefore bust.

I think if you pick a guy that high, he should be ready to hit the ground running and get plenty of reps.

By year two, he should be the unquestioned starter. When that doesn't happen, it is a red flag. He's not even the starter iirc. Super bust.

Not all top 5 picks are the same. Bosa was considered the top prospect in his draft class the year BEFORE he declared.

And he is very far along as an edge rusher which is why he's having the early success. Comparing Thomas to him is stupid and unfair.

His sister's suicide before his 2nd season is a complete unknown which could not be accounted for and we have no idea how that actually affected his career. He clearly wasn't all in last season and his play suffered.

Do you think if Joey Bosa killed himself that Nick wouldn't suffer in his play?

Either way at this point both guys are 49ers so whether it's Bosa or Thomas any good plays from them help the team. Not sure why people are so eager to trash Thomas when it's not even his thread? It's like him being a bust is a personal insult to you.

Yet you compare AA to Thomas all the time when AA wasn't close to a top 5 pick.

The AA comparison is to point out that Armstead didn't do anything worth getting excited about his first 2 seasons without the extra sh*t Thomas has had to deal with - like being played out of position or his sister killing herself.

A 5th year player should be more advanced than a 3rd year player.

Either way...back to Bosa. If you feel like beating this dead horse we can take it back to the Solly thread.

No, but it puts the onus on AA, Blair, and Taylor as they may be just as good. Just a bummer, that's all. I don't have ill-will against him.

And like I've told you repeatedly... it's a false narrative. AA belongs in a 3-4. He was drafted by a team running a 3-4. Now he's playing 4-3 DE just like Thomas.

So yes... he has dealt with similar things. Not the tragedy but the position thing is not unique to Thomas.
f**k. I hope his ankle is okay

Damn you lol...i'm trying to turn this back into a Bosa thread!

Last thing....AA played 3-4 DE just like he did at Oregon his first 2 years here. So his first two years(which was the comparison I was making) he neither dealt with an issue of being played out of place and certainly no personal tragedy which made him contemplate suicide on his own...

Hopefully Nick's ankle is feeling better and perhaps our offense can turn it up a notch in this game so we don't have to play him as much.

Me too, but the beat writers don't appear to share concern. It's just not 100%, and probably won't be until after bye.

I like to make things difficult lol... and since you mentioned Thomas first I thought I could just blame you for derailing the thread.

Nicks ankle will be fine. Load management for the first half of the season is likely.

This has basically been my concern all along: That we would rush him back to the field early and then spend the rest of the year working around his ankle injury. Hopefully that isn't the case and he's able to recover during the bye. But if it does continue to bother him I wonder that if we had just let him rest these first 3 games, if he would have been able to fully heal from the injury and not have to deal with it anymore for the remaining 13 games.

Even after it was announced he was playing, I figured they'd be smart and limit him to 20-30 snaps, but that didn't happen and he was clearly in some pain by the end of that game.
