Fords best attribute is his speed rush but didn't do that because he didn't want to give Mahomes free lanes to run through. He did his job

No, this isn't weird at all. The Niners have done this all year. It's essentially the football version of a change-up pitch by matching up the interior OL with a player who's much quicker, faster and more agile than the one they'd normally face.
