Where is the pressure numbers when Ford was out? I think Ford helps cleaning up the sacks by closing the backdoor for the QB but I don't think Bosa was much less effective with Ford out.

So the bolded information above is wrong?

I think what limited Bosa's sack numbers when Ford was out, was simply teams sliding the protections towards bosa (essentially double teaming him), and so guys like Demontre Moore and some of the other guys off the street had some good games playing against the opposing offense -- on the other side of Bosa. I hope Blair is back and I hope some of our free agents can at least give Bosa a break now and then, and if any of the free agents can at least be a credible threat on the other side so that if they are one on one (because the Offensive coordinator slit the protections to Bosa's side) they at least can win some of their battles.

Heh, didn't read the article. Still suffering PTSD from reading the Cone article on SI.
Just imagine...every practice, Bosa will be going up against Trent Williams (primarily)...talk about iron sharpening iron, woof.
Older video, and may have been posted already. It is a good watch though.

Completely agree with you. I think part of it for him is a growing process and just taking that next step as well. Buckner had troubles finishing sacks in his second year. The following year, with a similar pressure rate, his numbers jump up. I think we may see that happen.

I wouldn't be surprised if we drafted an edge rusher on day 1 or 2 next year, regardless of Dee Ford's health IF said edge rusher is a 3-down type of player in this defense. After watching some games from this year and seeing our Dline devastate opposing offenses, I'd like think we would like to keep up that pressure regardless of who's in the game.

Should be a fun competitive battle between two warriors.

That has to be including pre-season or something..... Since we know Bosa did not have 13 sacks.

Or maybe they are just awarding full sacks for half sacks.

I think that's fair.

I think the Smith/cowboy combo is different, since one was an edge line backer that was feasting off the other compressing the edge.

Ford and Bosa came from opposite sides most of the time. My original take on it was they were stealing sacks from each other, but after re-watching a lot of last year... i came to find a lot of sacks last year were from pocket movement.

That is why i think Kinlaw is going to be a huge deal this year. He is not going to compress the pocket against double teams, as much as he will find his way into eh back field and force the QB to move toward Ford or Bosa. How many times last year was the sack a half second off? I think they get a larger share of those this year due to Kinlaw cutting the pocket in half.

I would hate to compare a rookie to a HOF player, but I think there will be an Allen Page effect.
Look at these two articles.

Bosa has no filter and is as real as they come. But the 49ers PR department didn't like Bosa's take on the Buckner trade and not being able to replace Buckner with "one guy" so they made Bosa throw Kinlaw some love:

Jut imagine how active the 49ers PR department is on this board as "posters"?

Agree with both.
Kyle has drafted a DLineman 3 straight times in his three years as HC. I can see him drafting a DLineman again in 2021. I agree with you LL-niner, it's most likely an edge rusher because of Ford's health issues and the lack of edge rusher depth behind Ford. As for Kinlaw/Buckner playing next to Bosa, that DT next to the edge rusher is very key to that defense. I really think that defense keye's off turnovers - and it's a lot easier to get turnovers if it's coming from the QB's blind side where KInlaw/Bosa is going to be operating. If Bosa can increase his sack and QB hit rate, I don't think Kinlaw has to be Buckner to make Bosa as effective as he was his rookie season.
