The guy that ran that defense isn't on the team anymore.
fans wanted him gone after 2017 and 2018..I say it's more to do with the players than the guy who ran it
"If we trade Bosa, our defense will be terrible like it was in 2018."

"I did not watch our team play in 2020."

If you have said any variation of the first sentence, then the second sentence is 100% true.

Define great? If you mean a defense that held it together and played well against weaker offenses, sure. Against teams like Buffalo and Green Bay they got lit up without any consistent pass rush.

That was not a SB caliber defense by any stretch of the imagination and they'll still be losing several pieces from it along with having to adjust to a brand new DC.

Having an elite edge rusher will help make that transition easier for everyone involved.

Fans are often dumb and overly reactive. There's a reason why Saleh quickly earned the respect of so many, including vets like Sherman. He's a very good defensive coordinator. Time will tell if he is a good head coach.
Why would we trade Bosa?

- Weakens the defense even more, with a new DC, we need all the quality players we can to help the transition be smooth.
- Not a particularly great draft class at pass rusher this year
- $11 million dead money hit PLUS a loss of an addition $2 million in cap space

A better question is why let the Texans dictate terms. If they are engaging the 9ers it's because Watson has made it clear he wants to be a 9er. So we would then have the leverage. If they want to let him sit fine, let them deal with that distraction.

They get draft picks only or they get to stick with unhappy Watson.

Which throws out one of the positives of trading for Watson, that you'd save over ten million going from Garoppolo to him. If you trade Bosa, there is no really savings and now this team has another major hole to fill with no money, no first rounder and likely no second rounder along with numerous other free agents.

If a deal can be worked out that only involves draft picks, fine. If not, Houston can get bent.

Put this to sleep already. Trading Bosa would be the most idiotic move.
I would only trade away draft picks which are a gamble, not established players. Period, end of story.

Thing is, my dudes, everything sounds good in a Vacuum. Get Watson, lose Bosa, and move on to glory, right? RIGHT?!?!? Maybe, but as many have pointed out, you then have to fill Nick's role on the team, while also still signing the rest of our squad. And since you have to send *at least* two (three?) firsts to get Watson, you cannot immediately acquire his replacement.

And, though he is loathed around these parts, Cohn has a point about Bosa's injury history--we have to consider that going forward. What he does not mention, though, is that Bosa has bounced back each time.
I feel like Trading Bosa would be great...for other teams. I think we would regret it. QB's are overvalued anyway. They are important, but 3 1st round picks, Bosa and Kittle for watson? I see stuff like that am I'm like...no. That's what desperate teams do. The packers have never done that, the steelers have never done that. We aren't the browns, or detroit or anyone else. Let's build like we always do. Through the draft, grooming our own stars, adding a few key free agents and boom.

I think getting OL help, DB, and some extra DL bodies would be good. Jimmy can win. He needs to be healthy, D needs to be Good. We'll be right back in the playoffs.
Even the best edge rusher isn't going to impact the game as much as a great QB. Having said that, I would hate to lose Bosa after what he showed in his rookie season. It took so many years to find a replacement for Aldon. I would hate to see him go already.
