So many angry goofy takes in this thread.
News Flash: we lost the SB because of poor QB play. Our O would be unstoppable with good to great QB play.
And no, our team wouldn't be lopsided. We would have a good to average D with an elite offense. That can win a SB.

Like the Chiefs offense was unstoppable in this years SB? They would have though if Mahomes had time to throw the ball.

I'm thinking we lost the SB because of the blown coverage on T. Hill on 3rd and 15 with about 7 minutes left. We make that play and we are on offense with 7 minutes to go and a 10 point lead. No drop back passing game and dependency on OL and QB. We lost due to CB play.

That sounds like a whole lot of wishful thinking. No Bosa. New DC. Guys like Hyder are walking. No money to spend and no early draft picks to add replacements.
They'd be lucky to be average with no presence on the edge.
* Didn't have Bosa last year and we did fine.
* "New DC" is not so new-and was a promotion from within.
* Not sure Hyder walks -
* Not sure why you assume we have "no early draft picks." In the scenario I played out, we give up our 12th and Bosa. We still have a second and a number of 3rds.
If I'm "wishfully thinking" you are painting an overly pessimistic picture to bolster you argument.

If by fine you mean they were able to play well against lesser offenses but get smashed by better ones, sure, they were fine.
And now they'd have even fewer players and be down an experienced DC as well. In 2019 the team won on the strength of their pass rush and run game. In 2020, both were greatly weakened, especially the pass rush. They could not generate one when they really needed and they got lit up by better offenses. Look at the difference between how Aaron Rodgers looked against the 49ers in 2019 versus this past season. The lack of a consistent pass rush hurt them against better QB's. Trade Bosa and Hyder walks in FA and suddenly your edge rushers are bottom tier at best.

Has he ever called plays before? If not, then he's new. And we hope he does as well as Saleh but there's very likely to be some growing pains even if he pans out.
* Not sure Hyder walks
If you're trading Bosa then you're not saving any money by acquiring Watson. Realistically that means they can bring back Williams, possibly Verrett but someone else, potentially the Jets, pay Hyder more than the 49ers are able to. Then your edges are who next season? Jordan Willis and Ronald Blair? That sounds awesome.

Houston isn't trading Watson for one first rounder and Bosa. That isn't realistic whatsoever. You're going to need to offer more, like a 1st and 2nd this year and a 1st and 3rd next year along with Bosa and potentially one other player. Then you're trying to fill your needs at several positions with late round picks.
If I'm "wishfully thinking" you are painting an overly pessimistic picture to bolster you argument.
There is no situation where the 49ers are a legit SB contender by adding Watson while having absolutely no pass rush. They'd be like the Packers since 2011. Lots of offense, but can't get a stop when it matters.

I would rather the Niners not dismantle the team for a QB and instead just make the defense even more dominant. Sign Larson to go with Bosa.Re-sign Verrett and Kwaun, and draft a shutdown corner with the #12 pick. With that Dline, Linebackers, and secondary, I don't know how you score points on that defense. You won't need a top 5 QB with that defense.

Your a smart guy who does his research, but the section I put in bold pretty much proves my point.
People in this thread make it sound like trading Bosa for Watson straight up is ludicrous. No one even mentioned that no team would even do that. The stuff being said here is irrational. No team in the NFL would trade a franchise QB for a Franchise DE straight up.
If we had Watson's ability, a healthy run game and Kyles play calling, this team we put up points at will, not even considering Deebo, Aiyuk and Kittle.
My original post was I would trade Bosa and this years first for Watson. Then all these posters come out of the woodwork like I just said extend Jimmy and give Dee Ford a raise...
like I said, a lot of angry goofy posts in here.

And Houston would laugh and hang up. It'll take more than that, which is the problem. Its not just Bosa for Watson or Bosa and a first for Watson, you're going to have to offer a whole lot more than that.
Then the question is, at which point is the deal no longer worth it for the 49ers?

Trading Buckner and Bosa in back to back years gets GM's fired. Hey then maybe next year we can trade Warner.

All great points, but go back and read starting from page 772. That's not what most of these Bosa zealots are arguing.
Your point is valid though. I probably wouldnt give up the farm because of our cap situation.

Lynch won´t get fired if he gets Watson
Breaking news guys: a team can win the ring with an elite offense and an average defense.

Agree, might as well give them the whole team 49er team for Watson if you want to go all in.

Difference is the 49ers were still in the game late. Houston went up 21 early and ended up getting blown out.
that maybe true, but our defense was better than Houstons.
