Ok, WISH can punt, he can tackle , he can run...he played rugby He can also drop kick...which i might add is a dang site more difficult than kicking a snapped ball held by a holder, and like in OZ land , goes thru the uprights.
WISH also kicks off for us with a stationery ball on a tee.
So here is the question:
Why didn't we try WISH at PK instead of hiring Laughlin? I know McLaughlin has a lot more yrs experience in college, maybe in hi school, but why not try WISH at PK ? That just seems like the easiest thing to have thot of...yet it wasn't . Was he even tried out at PK? The guy can do trick kicks with the football...why wasn''t he tried out at PK? Or was he?
Still need a holder.
Dropkicking an Aussie Rules (not Rugby) football is way different to NFL ball due solely by shape.
NFL ball has a way smaller sweet spot where power of kick is transferred with most efficiency than the Aussie ball.
Also bouncing the ball is remarkably different for the same reason. The damn point on the NFL ball is a killer for an accurate bounce.
I was watching Dickson of Seahawks last year when he was dropkicking things and the ball never bounced true. When their kicker got hurt in game, he still came out for FG and PAT. Not even Carroll was going to allow dropkick point attempts.

Still, it is probably something for Mitch to work on just in case.
Thank you for the tutorial on AFL and kicking. And yes, looking at the ball it is easier now to understand how they can be running with the ball and suddenly drop kick. The nose is flat enough that you can get a relatively true bounce, vs the NFL football with the needle nose. Still, it is rather stunning that we have a guy who does K.O, and punts, but we haven't had him practicing PATs and FGs? That seems odd to me. It just seems like kyle or john would have gone to the guy who does our K.Os for backup PAT and FG kicker. Plus he is comfortable wth the team, he tackles like crazy, and is a really good NFL caliber player.
Still McLaughlin came in and was 3/3 until the final attempt. I guess i see it but still am surprised. The thing i am most impressed with on WISH's K.Os is that if kyle wants it in the EZ, it goes there. If he wants it on the goal line, it goes there. And if he wants it on the 5 yd line, it goes there. That to me sounds like a perfect guy for PATs and FGs.
