Hightower is too much of a p***y to do anything like this. He's the fair catch king.

You think Hightower has free reign to call fakes when he pleases?

He has free reign to impress upon the HC that he can run these with success like every other ST coach in the NFL.

You can only impress the HC with those fakes in practice.

In an actual game, there are variables that come into play as to whether you would actually call for one that go beyond "well it worked well in practice".

Just once. That's all we ask. It's been 4 years.

But only 22 games with Wish.

I'm actually talking ALL fakes...not just with the Special Teams Weapon.

So we need to go for fakes just to go for fakes?

Yup. Just like all 31 teams do annually. Some more creative than others.

All 31 other teams don't run at least one fake a year though. It's risk VS reward.

Yea not sure what the deal is. Watch other games and you have the punt/kick returners actually "returning" the football for some gains, or at least trying to... Us, never..

Every weekend you see trick plays around the league. Not us. Not ever. Our dudes are taught to fair catch with nobody within 40 yards or go right at the first guy down the field and go down. Kevin White didn't get the memo and tried to actually return a kickoff and was instantly benched.

Easiest job on the planet.
Kicker is easier imho, but with more responsibility though.

I'm willing to be all 31 teams have run at least some kind of trick play over the period Hightower has been here.

What was that awesome one we did under Harbaugh? Where Crabtree looked like he was walking off the field?
fake field goals too!
Best ever!

Belichick called a fake punt in 2017, it was the first one he had called in 13 years.

Upon which metric or feature do you judge this? Or is this just a pinion?

I might actually agree with you on the just average comment but why do many fans just judge a punt on it's length? What about wind factor, the state of the turf, hang time, the quality of the long snap, the rest of the special team and their speed to stop the ball or tackle, the style and shape of the punt to make the returner fair catch or miss, last line of defense ability, what the dumb****ss coach tells him to do etc etc. BTW he has punted plenty in the range you speak of.

Avg., Net Avg and inside the 20 punts.
