Does that mean you would have Pinion back based on this? And use the 4th round pick on something else? Do you know why ShanaLynch were so high on him?

You might be right but Pinion was vanilla in the extreme based on those stats. I think the patriots 5th round pick from Berkley in the same draft might be a better critical comparison based on those stats.

However, you might be on to something. just cut him and pick up an FA like the Steelers just did. Plenty of them around that won't make any difference in the grand scheme of things. After all the ST coach wouldn't try any thing out of the box any way.

Wish is lousy at kicking the ball inside the 20.

There are 7 punters with a better percentage of inside 20 punts this season so far. Maybe the league is lousy.
Fun fact while I'm on this bandwagon.
Pinion has had 36 kick offs and 33 were touch backs. of the 3 that were returned the average is 39.7 yards.
Wish has had 30 kick offs and 18 were touch backs. of the 12 that were returned the average is 22.4 yards.

I see a lot of criticism of Mitch not getting the ball through the end zone and maybe it is warranted, but it seems our ST guys have it under control.

Dude was an atrocious pick in the 4th. You don't take a punter that high unless he's obviously going to be an all time great. Mitch's level of play right now is at an undrafted free agent, which is what he should've been. Especially at his age. Unless he starts making probowls, the pick was an all time head scratcher.

He kicks it high and hangs it on purpose. It's easy to tell that's what he's been instructed to do. He could easily boot it out of the back of the end zone. They think that by making the other team return they can get the starting field position inside the 25, rather than just giving the other team the ball on the 25. It's not rocket science and if you can't tell that's what they're trying to do, you're not paying attention

Just curious what percentage of his punts are returned and where does he rank in that category ?

Pretty sure the question of purposely not kicking it out of the endzone was asked, since he doesn't do it consistently, and the answer was no. Doesn't negate the fact that he's nothing special, certainly not worth a 4th round pick and does nothing more than undrafted guys has done in the league historically. I will say that I do love his tackling/willingness to tackle, I swear I've seen him save a few kickoffs that could've been bigger if not for him.
Wish is way better than Pinion and it's not even close. Throw whatever stats out there you want it makes no difference to me. I watched Pinion shank more punts than I've ever seen a punter shank. He was trash. Wish is legit and I don't see many WTF punts if any. Wish can tackle as well. Rather have picked him in the 5th or later sure, but he's doing just fine. Zone is going to cry about anything possible so I don't even know why I'm wasting my time

What they tell you and what you see may be two different things. I see a team that's trying to get a return rather they admit to it or not
I don't mind spending a 4th round pick on a special teams player because the 4th round players are usually bust territory. If a team can get a special team ace, then it's worth the pick. But this guy hasn't been worth that pick.

9 of his 20 were returned ranking 12th in number and 21st in percentage least returned.

Would you use the same metric for the Pats pick in the 5th of that draft?
I'm not sure where his holding ability equates to his worth but it could have been a real issue if he sucked there, 3 LS changes on the season.
